2006 | Ferrari F 430

When Ferrari debuted their F430 at the 2004 Paris Motor Show as the followup to the 360 Modena, it represented a tremendous technological leap forward for its mid-engine V8 line of cars. The F136 V8 was a completely new unit from that found in the 360 and produced over 480 horsepower out of 4.3 liters while increasing in weight by less than 9 pounds. Gone were the notorious timing belts and in their place, chain-driven cams, which drastically reduced servicing costs while increasing reliability in the process. The exterior design provided more downforce while maintaining the same drag coefficient as the 360, and the interior was designed with ergonomics in mind, making it a much more comfortable place for long drives.

This 2006 Ferrari F430 is a beautiful example of the marque and has been an Italian-market car from new. Finished in Argento Nurburgring, this F430 was first delivered through well known dealer MO. CAR of Rome, in January 2006. The bright silver helps pick up on all of the intricate lines of the car, and is a very underrated color choice on this model. From the factory, this car was fitted with Scuderia Shields on the fenders, and a set of wheels from the later F430 Scuderia were installed later in the car’s life and do an excellent job of framing the car’s red brake calipers.

The interior of this F430 was specified with very dark blue leather, which contrasts with the silver exterior perfectly. The seats in these cars are extremely comfortable yet offer plenty of bolstering, keeping you in place when the roads get twisty. Slide behind the steering wheel, and you are greeted by a large, yellow tachometer that is right in your line of sight with an 8,500 rpm redline and a nicely sized steering wheel, with Ferrari’s first take on the Manettino dial to select driving modes. Some interior carbon fiber was optioned on this example, consisting of the center stack, as well as the HVAC vents on both the far left and right sides of the cabin, which gives a nice little extra motorsport feel to the interior.

Powering the F430 is a 4.3-liter version of the F136 flat-plane-crank V8, which went on to power both the California and 458. Even though displacement grew 20% over the 360 Modena’s V8, weight was up a mere 8.8 lbs, and the engine shrunk dimensionally. From the factory, the F430 is rated at 483 horsepower and 343 lb-ft of torque- of which nearly 80% is available below 3,500 rpm. This makes the F430 far more usable around town than its predecessors, but with an 8,500 rpm redline, it will still provide plenty of thrills as you wind your way around the tachometer. Since new this car has been thoroughly serviced and benefits from a recent comprehensive servicing at a well-known Ferrari specialist that included new brakes, gearbox actuator overhaul, gearbox solenoid valve replacement, as well as oil and fluids. Like most F430s, this car is equipped with the F1-style paddle shift gearbox. Offering exceptionally fast shifting and the ability to use it in automatic mode, this single-clutch automated manual was the pinnacle of technology at the time and still offers a pleasant driving experience, even for the diehard manual enthusiast. Additionally, a recent inspection shows that the clutch is currently at 100% and both exhaust manifolds are free from cracking which is a known issue on these cars.

The F430 is likely to go down as one of Ferrari’s great driving cars and, in many ways, represents the last of their truly analog driving experiences. With subsequent models, the addition of DCT gearboxes makes for faster shifting, but the experience is more removed, whereas, in the F430, you still need to know what you are doing to extract the most out of the car. This example benefits from an appealing color combination, thorough service history, and a recent comprehensive service that means all you need to do is get in the car and enjoy the drive.
