1985 | Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6

Sad times. This is my own personal 205 GTi which I have owned for 8 years but I am ashamed to admit, have only done 800 miles in. Being buried in storage facilities, the arrival of two children and Covid all got in the way of using her.

It is therefore time for someone else to take up the mantle and do a proper job of owning this rather special little car.

I bought it because my Mother had a 205 GTi when we were children. The gentleman I bought it from had acquired it at a Bonhams auction in 2013 where it was being sold for the 91 year old lady who had owned the car from new!

She looked after the car very well in fairness and had it MOT’d every year and serviced most years. The history file is amazing, going right back to the receipt for the deposit and the original purchase invoice.

In my ownership I have tidied up a few cosmetic bits, put new Michelin tyres on it and more recently (March 2024) I took it to the UK’s leading Peugeot specialists, Pug1off, and asked them to go right through it and rectify anything they felt needed attention. £1,400 later and here she is, ready to go!

I must confess, there is one thing that annoys me about the car, the drivers seat. The original Biarritz cloth is very well known for its ability to take on the consistency and strength of rizla paper! As a result, the drivers seat is suffering from wear to the fabric that has been coarsely covered up by the first owner’s sons in preparation for the Bonhams auction and the foam has collapsed on the outer bottom bolster. It doesn’t actually hinder the experience of driving the car, it just looks a bit rubbish!

My price reflects this imperfection and as I am torn (no pun intended) about whether to do it or leave the interior 100% original, I have decided to leave it up to the next owner to decide.
