1929 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 Springfield LHD Brewster Lonsdale Landaulette
Chassis Number: S324KP
Registration Number: BS9362
Currently undergoing a major service & set up with noted marque expert James Black. At the same time the Autovac is being reinstated to replace the current electric pump feed. Upon arrival at our showroom we will be re-photographing it.
The car was put into storage in New York during World War Two and was not exhumed until 1958 after which it was imported in very original but somewhat dilapidated condition. Since then great expenditure has been lavished upon the car. The engine has been fully rebuilt with +40 thou pistons & is running quietly & sweetly. A stainless steel exhaust has also been installed as has a reconditioned fuel tank to the rear.
Extensive cosmetics have also been undertaken. The car has had a very high qulity recent respray & is resplendent in its mid grey over black livery. The opening Landaulette roof has been replaced with new fabric & opens & closes easily being secured with 4 original latches when shut. The rear has been retrimmed to match the original upholstery in grey bedford cord extending also to the twin occasional seats along with new black carpets. To the front seats is brand new black leather. The front drum headlghts have also been removed & refurbished at vast cost to as new condition. The wire wheels have also been removed & refurbished & fitted all round with brand new tyres including the twin side mount spares.
The wooden dash board is all original with a delightful crackled varnish finish. All period instruments are in place with the exception of the clock to the right of the dash. We are currently looking for a suitably sized period replacement. Indicated miles are 102,837 From new.
Being a Springfield built car the gear change is a silky smooth 3 speed unit which is a pleasure to use. The chassis is also equipped with one shot lubrication operated by a pull handle under the dash board.
The engine bay is very tidy having had lots of money spent upon it. The rocker box is freshly painted in black & presents as new. Both original undertrays are pleasingly still in situ. The car comes with a full set of working keys.
The coachwork itself is very very solid by Brewster attested to by twin coachbuilders plates in the door shuts. Unusually the tool box under the drivers door has a period combination lock to secure it. (We have the code.) The doors are locked & unlocked by pull up knobs on the door tops similar to modern cars. A luggage rack is to the rear for a suitable luggage trunk to be affixed to.
All in all this is a very pleasing left hand drive car with all the major work having been done to put it into excellent condition, yet still retaining a pleasing patina to the dash board & drivers compartment wood roof which is also equipped with large fold down sun visors. The car performs well on the road runniing cool with high oil pressure & has a genuine "go anyhwere" feel to it due to the low miles on the chassis.
