Facel Vega. A brand that in our opinion produced one of the most beautiful cars ever. Unfortunately, its brief 10-year existence was also accompanied by overzealous chauvinism and technical malheur, so that now they are only collector items. Facel (Forges et Ateliers de Construction d'Eure) released its first car in 1954. The FV-1. Yet Facel had a some more luck than the average small manufacturer; they bought their engines from Chrysler and Ford.

In '56 the exclusive diplomatic car was introduced; the Facel Vega Excellence. A little Chansonniers that had a baby with Presley; American flair, with French workmanship and materials. All bumpers were high polished stainless steel instead of chrome and the wooden dashboard was painted stainless steel. It was the first production 4-door coupe with styleless suicide doors. Under the hood a 5.9-mil-bottle-V8 with 335 chevaux.

According to the registry, a total of 153 were built, of which about 90 are still alive. Ours is from the third owner, only partly restored, with a completely original interior and in original colors. Technically in top condition and optically a bit croque, looking for a new Monsieur. The Facel Vega Excellence presented here was first introduced in 1959 by the US general importer Hoffmann in New York and transferred to its first owner. Further investigation revealed that the car had two other owners in the US, the latter of whom could call the car his own for over 40 years.

In 2012, after a long absence, the car drove back onto European soil and found a place in good company in a collection of beautiful Facel vehicles in Germany. To date, the car has never been fully dismantled but only partially restored at the top address for Facel Vega in the Netherlands. So the current owner has invested a lot of money in the technique, but kept the charm of the original patina. The vehicle is still presented in the original color "Claire Lune" and the matching leather color "Rouge Vaumol".

Due to the missing B-pillar and the rear-hinged rear doors, the car looks extremely spacious and also exudes a corresponding feeling in the interior, which convinces with its noble equipment and underlines the car's position as one of the most luxurious automobiles of its time.

Leider wurde ihr kurzes 10-jähriges Bestehen auch von übereifrigem Chauvinismus und technischem Malheur begleitet, so dass sie heute nur noch Sammlerstücke sind. Doch Facel hatte etwas mehr Glück als der durchschnittliche kleine Hersteller; sie kauften ihre Motoren von Chrysler und Ford.

56 wurde der exklusive Diplomatenwagen Facel Vega Excellence vorgestellt. Ein kleiner Chansonnier, der ein Kind mit Presley hatte; amerikanisches Flair, mit französischer Verarbeitung und Materialien. Alle Stoßstangen waren aus hochglanzpoliertem Edelstahl statt aus Chrom und das hölzerne Armaturenbrett war mit Edelstahl lackiert. Es war das erste 4-türige Serien-Coupé mit stilfreien Selbstmördertüren. Unter der Haube ein 5,9-Milliliter-V8 mit 335 Chevaux.

Laut Register wurden insgesamt 153 Exemplare gebaut, von denen etwa 90 noch leben. Unseres ist vom dritten Besitzer, nur teilweise restauriert, mit einer komplett originalen Innenausstattung und in Originalfarben. Der hier vorgestellte Facel Vega Excellence wurde 1959 vom US-Generalimporteur Hoffmann in New York erstmals vorgestellt und an seinen Erstbesitzer übergeben. Weitere Nachforschungen ergaben, dass der Wagen zwei weitere Besitzer in den USA hatte, von denen der letzte den Wagen über 40 Jahre lang sein Eigen nennen konnte.

Im Jahr 2012 kehrte der Wagen nach langer Abwesenheit auf europäischen Boden zurück und fand einen Platz in guter Gesellschaft in einer Sammlung schöner Facel-Fahrzeuge in Deutschland. Bis heute wurde der Wagen nie vollständig demontiert, sondern nur teilweise bei der ersten Adresse für Facel Vega in den Niederlanden restauriert. Der jetzige Besitzer hat also viel Geld in die Technik investiert, dabei aber den Charme der ursprünglichen Patina bewahrt. Das Fahrzeug präsentiert sich noch in der Originalfarbe "Claire Lune" und der passenden Lederfarbe "Rouge Vaumol".

Durch die fehlende B-Säule und die hinten angeschlagenen Fondtüren wirkt der Wagen äußerst geräumig und verströmt auch im Innenraum ein entsprechendes Gefühl, das durch seine edle Ausstattung überzeugt und die Stellung des Wagens als eines der luxuriösesten Automobile seiner Zeit unterstreicht.
