Rolls-Royce Classic Cars for Sale

The British luxury car maker Rolls-Royce was founded by Frederick Henry Royce in Bracknell in 1884. After Frederick Henry Royce won over the entrepreneur Charles Rolls into becoming his business partner, the Rolls-Royce product range was presented at the 1904 Paris Motor Show for the first time.

The history of Rolls-Royce

In 1906 the Rolls-Royce 40/50hp, which was later known as the "Silver Ghost," was presented at the Olympia Motor Show in London and thus made Rolls-Royce famous for building the best automobiles in the world. Since 1911, the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost carried the Spirit of Ecstasy, a legendary hood ornament based on a winged female figure. In the mid-1920s the automobiles of Rolls-Royce had already become legend. They were associated with celebrities and luxury, as pictures of kings and celebrities in Rolls-Royce cars were published in magazines around the world. On 4 February 1971 Rolls-Royce was forced to declare bankruptcy, so the British government took efforts, at great expense of taxpayers' money, to prevent the company from collapsing. Rolls-Royce was then nationalized. After the car manufacturer was taken over by Volkswagen it was later incorporated into the BMW Group.

Rolls-Royce classic cars

The cars produced by Rolls-Royce were never an example of groundbreaking innovations, but rather symbolised all-time quality and reliability. A timeless classic car made by Rolls-Royce is the Silver Cloud, which was produced between 1955 and 1966. The car was available as a convertible, coupe and saloon car. Overall, three different versions of the Silver Clouds were published, which are numbered consecutively as the Silver Cloud I, II and III. A total of 10,000 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud models were produced, who back then had a huge fuel consumption of up to 22 litres per 100 km.

The Rolls-Royce logo

At Rolls-Royce, presenting the vehicles to the public was always a high priority. The extravagant grilles, which are reminiscent of Greek temples, make the vehicles instantly recognisable. In addition, the brand emblem is known to every classic car fan and car lover: a simple logo in which the letters R and R are intertwined and the words Rolls and Royce are used to reflect and reinforce each other. The most distinctive trademark of Rolls-Royce, however, is undoubtedly the "Spirit of Ecstasy", the radiator figure that continues to make the hearts of classic car fans beat faster.
