Jaguar Classic Cars for Sale

The British automobile company Jaguar was founded by William Lyons and William Walmsey in 1922. The company's original name at that time was "Standard Swallow" or "Swallow Sidecar Company", abbreviated as "SS". After the 2nd World War it was then renamed as Jaguar.

The history of Jaguar

The carmaker Jaguar started out in Blackpool producing sidecars for motorcycles. In order to enter the automotive industry, a two-seater body was developed in 1927, which was designed by William Lyons for the Austin Seven. After the company moved to Coventry in 1928, it built its first own designs in 1931, the SS1 and SS2. In 1935, with the production of the SS90, the name "Jaguar" was utilised for the first time in order to designate a car model. The number is meant to indicate the maximum speed in miles. The famous Jaguar symbol was present for the first time on this model. With the successor, the SS100, the company celebrated its foothold in the automotive industry due to the very low prices and the racing successes.

The most important models

The following models impressed with their unique elegance. Due to its many racing successes, Jaguar also strengthened its sporty image within the industry. After a fire in 1956, the entire production areas were destroyed, but were successfully rebuilt. In 1959 they conquered the American market with the luxuriously equipped Jaguar MK II. Thanks to the Jaguar E-Type and the legendary models Jaguar MK II and SS100, Jaguar is still a very famous brand.

The logo

Since 1935 the logo is present on all of Jaguars models, and symbolises power, elegance and dynamism. Later Jaguar models are equipped with a hood ornament of the famous predatory cat.
