Description

  • This Zagato Zele 1000 is a very good example of the diminutive electric city car designed by the prestigious Milan-based design house, with recent modern replacement batteries.

  • It is powered by a 1000-watt Marelli electric motor, powered by four 12-volt batteries, driving the rear wheels via a three-speed semi-automatic transmission.

  • The Zele is based on the Fiat 500 and Fiat 124 platform, with a lightweight fibreglass body over a steel-framed chassis.

  • A small city car, the Zele 1000 offered a range of around (65-80 km) 40-50 miles, and a top speed of around 40 kph (25 mph).

  • This example is in good running order, having had its batteries and wiring replaced in 2020.

  • The odometer displays just 2,063 km.

  • The seller notes that the car now has an Italian registration, and is fitted with Italian numberplates.

  • This example of the Zele is finished in light blue with a black central stripe, over a black vinyl-trimmed interior with a black dashboard and black carpets.

  • It rides on a set of 10-inch steel wheels shod in Goodyear custom G8 tyres.

  • The interior features two seats, a two-spoke steering wheel, a basic speedometer and odometer, a selection of toggle switches to control the lights, the front window demister and a wheel-mounted gear selector. There is some stowage space behind the seats.

  • The car’s batteries, cables and charging system have been updated to modern standards during 2020. The original charger is provided with the car.

  • The car is accompanied by an instruction manual and an electrical wiring diagram.

  • There is no impact damage present on the bodywork.

  • The blue paintwork is in very good overall condition, as can be appreciated in the photo gallery, though the vendor does report one small mark on the front of the car. The exterior trim, light lenses and badging is also in good order.

  • Inside, the cabin presents very well, with no significant wear. The vinyl is in great shape, and the steering wheel and dashboard are in good condition.

  • There are no known electrical faults with the car.

  • The most recent roadworthiness check was during April 2022, with no advisories or warnings were noted.

This Zagato Zele 1000 is a wonderful example of the miniature electric city car, which has recently been converted to a modern electrical system with contemporary batteries. Ahead of its time in many respects, but remaining a quirky classic, there is no doubt that this Zagato Zele would be an intriguing show car, and perhaps even a fun city runabout.
