This Wolseley 24/30HP is an up-market model produced between 1911 and 1915. 'J 1296' was sold new to Mr Cecil J. Sadler of Durham via agents ‘George & Jobling’ of Newcastle-upon-Tyne fitted with factory two-seater coachwork. The Wolseley 24/30HP remained in the same ownership until purchased by Mr Max De Redder in the early 1960s. Mr De Redder did little in way of restoration but did research the car's history and secured its original registration. Following restoration the Wolseley 24/30HP took part in several VCC Rallies without problems but has seen little use in the last few years.
The Wolseley 24/30HP is a large imposing machine with very upright coachwork installed in the 1980's and a black leather bench type seat for two or three people up front. To the rear is a useful storage area which could be configured as a dickey set. The Wolseley 24/30HP is VCC dated, certificate 2513 as being of 1913 origin. The hood is in good condition and is of black mohair. The dash has a full set of very period instrumentation located on the lower bulkhead.
Finished in Burgundy and Black with gold pinstripe fine lining, the Wolseley 24/30HP presents very well. It is a pleasure to drive with an easily mastered gear box. Assorted brass fittings adorn the Wolseley 24/30HP including headlamps, side lamps and a brass horn. An exterior klaxon is fitted as is a shell spare fuel can.
The engine and mechanics have been subject to a complete overhaul and the car is now running and sounding beautiful. It is a large powerful car & wafts one down the road with an unstoppable feeling to the whole ensemble. For ease of starting the car has recent had electonic ignition fitted so it now starts on the first turn of the engine.
These large engined Edwardian vehicles do not often come to market and this one is well worth a look.
