Volvo C 70 Classic Cars for Sale

The Volvo C70 represents two convertible models and one coupe model developed by Volvo. The coupe was first launched in April 1997, later followed by the convertible which delivery to Europe only started at the end of 1999. The first C70 was based on the body of the S70 and V70 models and was built on the platform of the former Volvo 850.

The Development of the Volvo C70

In 1994 a joint venture was established between Volvo and their British racing partner, the engineering firm TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing), under the name AutoNova. This small, very young group was tasked with developing two-door variants independently of the ongoing four-door developments at Volvo based on the 850 model. The debut of the coupe and the resultant change from the angular line at Volvo took place in September 1996 at the Paris Motor Show, and the car was for sale from April 1997.

The first open-top Volvo was already presented in January 1997 and was the first open-top Volvo since the presentation of the P1900 Sport in 1954. The convertible was launched in November 1999, after TWR had stopped earlier in the year. The future variant of this five-cylinder engine was introduced for sale with two turbo engines.

Further Models of the Volvo C70

In October 2002, the appearance of the convertible was revised with clear headlights, a modified grill as well as new alloy wheels and body colours. In addition, the five-cylinder engines were revised: the 2.4 T now delivered 147kW (200hp) and the T5 180kW (245hp). The coupe was no longer manufactured after about 27,000 units. Also the base model of the C70 was discontinued in 2005 after about 50,000 exemplars produced.

The second generation of the C70 was presented at the IAA 2005. However, it was built only as a convertible with a steel folding roof based on the Volvo S40/V50 models presented at the end of 2003. Sales of the model started at the end of May 2006. Special attention was paid to the shape of the rear in this generation, which could be made flatter thanks to the use of three-part folding roofs. Production of this series ended in 2013.
