Description

In 1948, Wilhelm Karmann bought a standard Beetle and converted it into a four-seater convertible. After successfully presenting it at Volkswagen in Wolfsburg, Karmann began production of the Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet in 1949. After a number of stylistic and technical alterations made to it, the last of 331,847 cabriolets came off the conveyor belt on 10th January 1980, bringing with it the end of an era. In 1971, alongside continued production of the standard Beetle, a variant which featured Macpherson strut front suspension and a re-designed front end was introduced which was officially known and marketed in Europe as the 'VW 1302' from 1971 to 1972, and 'VW 1303' from 1973 onwards. The VW Beetle has seduced many a first-time buyer, collector and classic car enthusiast. And for obvious reasons; the parts network is comprehensive and inexpensive, the ability to convert the base model into many different variants was always available and the cost of the car itself presented a gateway into classic car ownership.

First supplied to Verona in Italy in 1973 this lovely example still retains its rare Italy specific style sidelights. Imported by the vendor who paid nearly €30,000 for the car in 2022, it has been doted on ever since. The soft top hood was replaced in September of 2022 with the fitting cost being £1,470 alone. The car has also been fitted with an uprated 1,600cc engine and period style Bluetooth radio as well as front inertia seat belts. Serviced by Terry's Beetle Services of London since its arrival in the UK the vendor has had the car serviced there every year with invoices totalling over £3,665.00 to date. The interior presents very well with the vinyl seats unmarked. The vendor reports the car to run and drive very well and is only selling to fund a new project.

Supplied with its V5 registration document, Volkswagon model certificate, receipts and papers from the car's import. An excellent example that presents beautifully, this friendly Beetle is sure to get a lot of attention wherever it goes. Consigned by Will Penrose
