In September 1957, the Beetle models underwent their second major modernization. The windshield was enlarged, but most notably, the rear window was significantly increased in size. The dashboard and door panels were also redesigned. In 1958, improvements brought larger exterior mirrors, followed by new door handles and a stabilizer on the front axle in 1959. Mechanically, everything remained the same, with the tried-and-tested 30-horsepower engine, which had been produced millions of times. It wasn't until 1961 that further changes were made, introducing the new 34-horsepower engine.

This Beetle, ordered in black, was first registered in Lisbon on June 23, 1960, making it an export model. According to the original registration documents from the first owner in 1960 and 1985, the license plate was OP-53-54. It wasn't until 2014 that a different license plate appeared on a technical inspection document in Santa Tirso near Porto. The Beetle was later sold to Germany and extensively restored before 2017. The restoration included a complete overhaul of the mechanics and electronics, dry ice blasting of the underbody, a full repaint, new chrome parts, and an interior refurbishment. Since its restoration, the vehicle has been part of a large Beetle collection and has not been driven. Now, the Beetle is once again roadworthy and ready to enjoy winding country roads. The original Portuguese registration documents are available, along with an expert appraisal from 2017, which was carried out shortly after the restoration, as well as a few restoration photos and the current German full approval.
