Description

1931 Vauxhall Hurlingham
Chassis Number: T1772
Registration Number: GN3275
Body RA.548

Engine TRA.1798
Very few of these were made (just 52) when new & even fewer remain with some 20 known to be in existance world wide. This rare Vauxhall was found in dilapidated condition in Suffolk some decades ago & restored. Since then it has been in long term ownership having passed to the owners nephew who after years of enjoyment & in his 70's wishes to move it on.
The car is based upon the Vauxhall 20/60 chassis & uses the larger 3.4 litre displacement straight six engine providing ample power for driving at modern day speeds. The gear box is a crash box with the straight cut gears making a distinctive whine except in top which is silent.
Accomodations take the form of two seats up front & a dickey seat to the rear complete with its own separate removeable windscreen. The older red & black paint is presentable with beige seating & carpets to the interior. The dash is typical vauxhall with its requisite instruments in situ. The car has a wealth or period details including twin nautical style air scoops poking out of the scuttle area.
The car is mechanically strong with a go anywhere feel to it. The combination of a large engine & light body give it serious performance for the day when it was regarded as a bit of a hot rod driven by bounders; indeed we have a period picture of the very smug looking first owner standing by the car sporting a pair of two tone spectator shoes.
To sum up this is a rare car in very useable lightly patinated condition. We sold a simplar one some years ago in identical colours from South Africa for £160,000
