Brand & Model History:
In the early days of the automotive industry, Alexandre Darracq was one of the most active players. By 1904, he was already building 10% of all cars in France, sold parts of his company to England, and founded a factory in Italy in 1906, which later became Alfa Romeo. He withdrew from car manufacturing in 1912. In England, the name Talbot emerged in 1903, and S.T.D. Motors Limited, which produced cars under the names Talbot, Darracq, and Sunbeam, went bankrupt in 1935.
Antonio "Tony" Lago, a charismatic entrepreneur, took over the management of the Talbot factory in Suresnes, France, in 1933. Although he tried to save the brand through motorsport, he was only partially successful. Talbot-Lago became known for extravagant cars and won the 1950 24 Hours of Le Mans, but the company continued to struggle financially. In 1958, Lago sold the company to Henri Pigozzi, the owner of Simca, and the Talbot-Lago brand disappeared in 1959. Lago died in 1960.
Condition & History
The stunningly beautiful convertible was made by Guilloré for Talbot. As if this breathtakingly beautiful convertible weren't fascinating enough on its own, the quality of this vehicle's restoration, even 20 years after its completion, continues to impress. The vehicle features a Wilson preselector gearbox, which came with a hefty price tag at the time. The braking system and carburetor have been overhauled and equipped with new operating fluids, etc. One of about 45 convertibles produced with a 2700 cc engine and approximately 120 horsepower. A unique opportunity to find this type of vehicle as a four-seater convertible in this quality.
Market Positioning:
The Talbot Lago brand was known for its combination of performance and luxurious design. Under Anthony Lago's leadership, the focus was on the production of exclusive, handcrafted automobiles, particularly popular with wealthy clients.
The T15 LB Cabriolet was positioned in the high-price segment, targeting affluent buyers seeking individuality and prestige. In this class, Talbot Lago competed with other high-end manufacturers such as Bugatti, Delahaye, and Hispano-Suiza, which also offered exclusive and powerful vehicles.
Summary:
The Talbot Lago T15 LB Cabriolet Guilloré represents a beautiful automobile showcasing French design and craftsmanship. With its elegant lines, powerful technology, and the prestige of the Talbot Lago brand, it is highly attractive to collectors. This model is a timeless example of post-war French automotive culture.
