Description

1930 MG ‘M’ Type Midget - Excellent throughout
(previously supplied by us)

Launched at the 1928 Motor Show, the M Type, based on the contemporary Morris Minor, was to prove an instant success. Powered by the 847cc overhead cam engine as used in the Minor, but now developing 20 bhp, the M Type was lively, being capable of 65mph - quite something for such a small car then.
Many sporting achievements were to boost sales, both in trials and on the track, with class wins in the 1930 'Double Twelve' race at Brooklands.  Early models had fabric coachwork, but steel panels were used from 1931 until production ceased the following year, when the M Type was superseded by the J Type.

This super little MG has benefited from a recent restoration and is presented in excellent condition.  The electrics are converted to 12v and the accelerator pedal has been moved from its position in the centre to the more common right-hand side layout.

Another useful modification has been the fitment of an alternator.  This car is well known to the MMM Register with its original registration number.  Her Chassis number is 2M/1768, Engine number 1540A which is original to the car.

The interior trim is in black leatherette with new carpets and an excellent tonneau cover is also supplied.

Included on file are a letter from the MG Car Club confirming the car’s build date as 1930 together with copies of period road tests and numerous bills and a Profile Publications booklet No 45 on The MG Midget ‘M’ Type.  There is a new tonneau cover (no hood is supplied - you just wear your weather equipment!)

Ideal for numerous events, these characterful cars are great fun and very rewarding to own.
