Hexagon Classics are delighted to offer this super manual gearbox Mercedes-Benz 230SL, which remained with the third keeper for the past 36 years. It had a chassis-up restoration in the 1980’s, an engine rebuild in 1999 and a professional paint restoration in 2008.  The classic cream paintwork now shows just the right amount of patina and could be used exactly as is, or it could be fettled to show condition if desired. This Mercedes-Benz is offered on behalf of the owner.

The SL Pagoda series has always been a very popular car, with its low wide handsome proportions to its styling features. With the ‘Pagoda’ hardtop fitted the car looks outstanding and with its lid off, the SL is superbly proportioned. It was designed by Paul Bracq in 1963 and was a big departure from its predecessor. While the earlier generations of SL’s featured rounded shapes and arched lines, the W113 used flat panels or slightly curved ones. Its rectangular headlights were completely new and were part of a design element featured on Mercedes-Benz cars for the following three decades.

Fitted with disc brakes, power steering and fuel injection these cars are effortless to drive and have stood the test of time. It was only available an open-top vehicle with a removable hard top and a canvas roof hidden between the cabin and the trunk.

The 2,306cc fuel injected engine produced a maximum output of 150hp at 5,500 rpm, and provided 0-62 mph acceleration of 10.5 secs and a top speed of 124 mph.

UK supplied in June 1964, it is complete with painted black hardtop, period radio, history file going back to 1977, handbooks and spare keys.  The 230SL is really the perfect touring roadster.  The dateless cherished number plate is also included in the sale.

Available to view now at our London showrooms.
