1962 Mercedes-Benz 190SL
Description
This exceptional, fully rebuilt Mercedes Benz 190SL was supplied by specialist Mercedes Benz restorers Hemmels in South Wales to the most recent owner for £195,000 in 2020. Since then, the 190SL has been part of a top-class collection in Henley on Thames and has covered just a few hundred miles since purchase. During 2024 the SL Shop have maintained the car with receipts on file totaling £12,000.
279 XUY has been completely rebuilt to a very high standard. The car comes with a detailed history, and in 1997 the cars UK based owner shipped the car from his property in Spain for a body restoration and full re-paint that was completed in 1998. Some photographs accompany the supporting paperwork. Over the next few years Mercedes Benz restorers Heaney Motor Company in Northern Ireland built the car up with various new trims, gaskets, mouldings, rubbers and carried out a mechanical overhaul to include an engine rebuild and many renewed and replaced ancillaries.
By 2010 the Mercedes Benz was with a North London based owner and invoices from Mercedes Benz of Poole are on file for new parts showing good quality upkeep and maintenance. They supplied a new clutch plate, disc and release mounting, brand new ring gear and various service items. Having covered very few miles, in 2017 the car had a further light re-commissioning program with Auto Barn in Ledsham totaling over £5000. This included a Weber carb conversion kit, new slave cylinder, various new bushes, and work to the braking system.
Several hundred miles on the Mercedes Benz was in the hands of marque specialists Hemmels who prepared the car for its most recent owner. With limited use and its recent SL Shop maintenance, the car arrives with us in exceptional condition. The bodywork is first class, the underside structurally outstanding and the paint finish and chrome work of a very high standard. The interior trim has been beautifully renewed, the hood and tonneau are excellent and the engine bay and boot compartment both equally as impressive. Mechanically top class, the engine is strong fit and holding excellent oil pressure, the gear changes and syncro's perfect and with sharp brakes, precise steering and excellent handling, this is a car ideal for taking onto the Continent in its LHD format. Over the years this is a car that's had excellent maintenance and upkeep but not enough road use, we hope to find a buyer who will really use, enjoy and drive this true icon.
