Description

The Mercedes W111 Coupe  was presented as the successor to the Ponton Coupe series in February 1961 and started as the 220 SE Coupe, it was based on the W111 platform, the so-called tail fin. The coupes correspond technically to the sedans and remained in the program until May 1971, 6 years longer than their four-door sister models. In contrast to the sedans, they have no fashionable tail fins, a lower roof line, and thus appear overall more elegant and timeless, which gave them a classic status much earlier. This timelessness also made it possible for them to be built in parallel with the successors of the 111 sedans, the S-Class of the W 108 / W 109 series, with practically no changes. The W111 Coupe was offered with different engines. Six cylinders were offered as 220 SE, 250 SE and 280 SE, as well as eight cylinders as 280 SE 3.5. The 3.5 V8 engine with 200 hp was the crowning glory. In the course of the last major facelift in 1969, the front was revised. The radiator grille became wider and flatter, and the bonnet was flatter. These models are known by collectors as "flat coolers" and were produced in small numbers. Only 3,270 vehicles of the W111.026 with the V8 engine were produced.

**This 3.5 Coupe  **was first delivered in the USA. There the car underwent a partial restoration before it was sold to Germany. Paint, the interior in leather parchment was renewed with original materials , carpets , chrome and various other work on the vehicle were done. The Mercedes Coupe was imported back to Germany a few years ago and converted to the European standard in the course of the restoration. For this purpose, the side marker lights were removed and the front lights were converted to halogen and rear lights to European specifications. It was given a high-quality repainting by Brabus,. The technic was extensively revised last year. The front axle, rear axle, steering, brakes, cardan shaft, exhaust system, shock absorber and the Boge hydromat on the rear axle were repaired or replaced. The engine received a new wiring harness, the peripherals were serviced or repaired, as well the transmission. The body was checked for distortion and damage and brought to factory dimensions. The gaps are strait and even. The chrome is partly new chrome-plated and excellent. All in all, the car is now in the same condition as it was when one year old, it  is technically and visually first class. Everything works, has been checked or repaired, there is no repair or maintenance backlog. The work was carried out by us and the leading workshops in Germany. It is a thorough and high-quality restoration on a rust-free  basis. The car now drives as it should, you can tell that a lot of know-how has gone into the restoration. Not comparable to "cosmetic restorations" where everything was only repainted once. There is evidence that over 100.000,-- has gone into the repair.
