1935 | Mercedes-Benz 200
Description
1935 Mercedes Benz 200 W21 LWB Cabriolet
Chassis number: 108020
Registration Number: Applied for.
Produced in 1935, this very rare Mercedes cabriolet is the enbodiment of teutonic quality manufacturing. The Mercedes 200 W21 was in production between 1933 and 1936 as the successor to the W02. This W21 is one of the long wheel base cars that went into production from 1934, with a total of 6,341 of every version built in just over a two year period. Out of these just a handful were coachbuilt as DHC models. The 6-cylinder 1,961 cc engine produced a maximum of 39 Hp & is a paragon of 6 cylinder smoothness pulling well in all three forward gears. Performance is similar to a Rolls Royce 20hp, or 20/25 with 50MPH B road cruising readily available.
Sindelfingen body number 812447 takes the form of a spacious & commodious 2 door cabriolet with sumptuous leather seating in burgundy for the 4 occupants. The roof has a thick liner backed by west of England (or maybe West of Germany) fawn cloth to the interior. It makes the car very snug with the roof up, yet easily folds back with the release of two windscreen catches. Carpets are also burgundy. The exterior has just been repainted & thus is in flawless condition finished in Prussian Blue over Black wings.
This car is simply a pleasure to drive & is redolent of the finest quality available at the time. It is rare & beautiful with real character when driven down the road.
This car was first registered in 1935. Today it still has its Swiss registration papers (all EU taxes have been paid). The previous owner was a London based collector of mainly Mercedes. Starting from a solid base the car has been restored over the last few years and been given a new coat of paint and a new interior. The mechanics have all been inspected and overhauled where necessary. The final result has made this a high quality car with handling worthy of the Mercedes badge, being really solid. Just to look at this Mercedes will tell you about the enormous amount of care, effort and expenditure the last owner spent. The W21 was always aimed at the top segment of the market and remains true to this day being built to the same standards as its larger 500k siblings.
