History File
– Our Michelotti (Vignale)-designed Maserati Sebring 4.0 is a rare gem, one of only 19 of the final 4.0-liter models produced, following its predecessors with 3.5 and 3.7-liter engines. This particular Second Series 4.0 example, confirmed by Maserati as number #3 out of the limited run, was built between 1966 and 1968 before making way for the Ghibli model. Chassis number AM101/S10*537 was crafted on September 21, 1966, and found its first home in Chiasso, Switzerland. Interestingly, the original Swiss dealer requested a 4.0-liter engine for this car before the completion of full 4.0 homologation, resulting in its earlier Tipo number AM101/S10, rather than the later AM101/A10. In Switzerland, it saw two owners before undergoing a part restoration in the early nineties, including a striking repaint in a vibrant solid red hue. Acquired by a prominent German collector in 2000, it became a cherished member of a vast collection of over 300 cars, enjoying continuous registration and regular use for over two decades. Its enthusiastic owner ensured its participation in several European classic rallies over the years, including the Ennstal Classic, Silvretta Classic Rallye Montafon (twice), and the Jochpass Oldtimer Memorial Bad Hindelang (three times). In 2021, Cathedral Classics facilitated the sale of this remarkable vehicle to a discerning enthusiast who embarked on further restoration efforts, including a return to its original exterior color, alongside other enhancements amounting to an investment of nearly €50,000. Now, Cathedral Classics is delighted to present this rare automotive treasure once again to the discerning marketplace.
