Description

Land Rovers were inspired by the US-built Willys Jeep immediately after the war, by 1992 they claimed that 70% of all the vehicles they had ever built were still in use. Before the war, Rover had produced luxury cars which ceased to be in demand in the immediate post-war period and raw materials were strictly rationed to those companies' building construction or industrial equipment. Rover's original factory in Coventry had also been bombed, forcing the company to move into a huge factory it had built in Solihull for constructing aircraft. Re-badged models were introduced in 1983 as the Land Rover 90, 110 and the Land Rover 130 with the numbers representing the wheelbase in inches.

Sam Mendes, the director of both Skyfall and Spectre wanted a spectacular snow chase scene and turned to Jaguar Land Rover to assist. With the standard Land Rover 110 Defender deemed a bit too bland for a 'baddy's' getaway car they turned to leading Land Rover modifiers, Bowler. The firm transformed 10 standard production, Santorini Black, crew-cab 110s into the SVX Concept or Spectre Defender. The cars featured huge 37-inch tyres, heavy-duty roll cages plus toughened suspensions with rose joints and Bilstein rally dampers. A hydraulic handbrake was installed, and its lever repositioned. The engine was tuned to give 180bhp and Recaro seats fitted.

This fabulous evocation of one of the 10 cars that featured in the James Bond film Spectre is presented in black metallic coachwork with external safety system roll cage, front winch (remote) and expedition roof rack as per the original cars from the film. This double cab example boasts electric windows, remote central locking and has been treated to new Alcantara headlining, Alcantara steering wheel and full black leather Recaro seating with wing back bucket seats trimmed with Alcantara backs. It also has a 9" multimedia system for CarPlay and Bluetooth connection with an Alpine sub-woofer professional installed under the rear seats. The initial modifications to become an evocation took place on this example after a light Category D insurance claim in 2012, making this the perfect candidate to go full 007 in 2022. Mechanically, the car has just been serviced and recently benefitted from a new steering box, new brake discs and pads all round, wheel bearings, rear driveshafts, new transfer and gearbox, new stainless sports exhaust which sounds amazing and a tuned ECU with a performance remap making it impressive performance wise. Bills came to more than £35,000 for the transformation and our vendor tells us after a recent long drive 'it performs fantastically and sat happily at 80mph (where legal) and drives as solid as a rock'. Sitting on full offroad tyres, this example would look as incredible on any high street as it would chasing a '00' down an alpine pass. Offered with invoices and an MoT test certificate until December 2025, what a machine 007 'Bond the names Bond'. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
