Vintage & Prestige are proud to offer this very unique 1956 Jensen Early interceptor convertible, probably the most unsung hero of British Motoring.
If you, like us, like unusual cars, this will be the perfect motor for you. Only 88 produced in total of which only 32 were convertibles and less than 20 of them are still in existence.
Presented in beautiful Maroon, recently painted (less then 2 years ago), the car is beautifully patinated all around and has never been touched since she left the showroom floor back in 1956.
The current owner had the car for the past 20 years and used it on several rallies and can confirm that the car always proved itself to be very reliable and quite “economical” compared to the competition.
Being almost 5 metres long and having very soft suspension, it is extraordinarily comfortable at all speeds; despite the length of the car it weights only 1480kg, which makes it very nimble around corners and a great competitor for the big names of the era.
The Jaguar MK VII was a direct opponent, but compared to the Bristol (nearly 3 times the Interceptor’s price tag) and the Bentleys (3.5 times the price) of the same era it was very clear that the Jensen offered a top class driving experience for far less money. And the Interceptor was also the quickest.
An overdrive was standard on this later model and can be operated by pulling the gear lever towards the drivers left leg in fourth gear, and back to return to fourth. Because of the high amount of torque the car can be driven in fourth gear at low speeds. Top speed in overdrive is 170 kmph, but cruising around 130 kmph is where the Jensen Interceptor is at its best. While not being a sports car, the Interceptor performed well and could easily outrun most sports cars of its time.
This 1956 Jensen Interceptor is equipped with the 3,933cc Austin straight six engine and transmission from the Austin Sheerline.
The roof is in extremely good conditions and it’s very easy to pull up and down with the perspex cover perfectly folding itself in the well behind the rear seats.
Being a later production of the Early Interceptor, it is fitted with 4 hydraulic brakes which comes very handy at the top speed of 95mph.
Even if not widely known the Jensen Early interceptor (hen fitted with the V8 engine) was the second fastest production car of the era, just second to the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing, with a top speed of almost 145mph.
This amazingly unique 1956 Jensen interceptor it's ready to be seen and driven away.
