Description

This is 1 of just 69 UK RHD Home Market Jaguar XK150 3.8 S DHC’s ever built, and increasing desirability of this rare car even further is the fact it retains matching numbers, and is still presented in its factory colour combination. This fully restored example was manufactured on the 17th February 1960 and left the factory finished in Sherwood Green with Tan leather and Black hood. The XK was distributed from Henlys London, then supplied new by Leigh on Sea Jaguar agents H L Abbott and is listed in the Anders Clausager book ‘XK140/XK150’ in Detail’ on page 207. The car was sold new to a David P Choyce FRCS, a leading ophthalmic surgeon who championed and developed artificial lens implants during his career. The XK was in regular use throughout the 1960’s according to paperwork on file, husband and wife even toured Europe in the cars early life.

Chassis number T827528DN has been subject to an exceptional, first class restoration that was completed in 2012 and since then the XK has covered little over 1000 miles. Although mileage since rebuild is low, it was been exceptionally well maintained with invoices on file for upkeep. The restoration has been well documented to include photo records. All metal work was completely refurbished by a leading XK metalwork specialist who spent almost 18 years at the renowned Leaping Cats Ltd of Nuneaton and as result the panel work and gaps are truly first class. The body preparation and paintwork were then carried out by an experienced Oxfordshire based specialist and the finish is of the highest of standards. The underbody was surface etched primed with a stone protection coating and then painted and the chassis was soft bead blasted, dimensionally checked and lightly powder coated in gloss back. The XK was then built up with renewed chrome, new chrome 60 spoke wire wheels and tyres and the upholstery fully re-trimmed by a Nuneaton based renowned classic car trimmers.

XK specialists Guy Broad carried most of the mechanical rebuild. A full engine rebuild included new pistons, re-grind of the crankshaft with ACL Duraglide heavy duty bearings, uprated oil pump and all new timing chains and guides. A rear crank oil seal upgrade was carried out, con-rods were balanced as was the flywheel. An AP 9.5" diaphragm clutch, water pump, new 80 amp alternator and new electronic distributor kit also fitted. The cylinder head was rebuilt with bronze valve guides, hardened lead free valve seats and new tappet guides. Lightweight tappets, stainless steel valves with uprated valve springs were used, and all rebuilt and shimmed to factory specification. The HD8 SU triple carbs were fully rebuilt and a new Broadspeed 5 speed gearbox fitted. Guy Broad then undertook a full axle rebuild for the XK150S fitted with a 3.54:1 limited slip differential unit with new uprated axle shafts and Broadspeed uprated rear disc kit. Having carried out the major mechanical rebuild, the XK was fitted with a Broadsport suspension upgrade kit to include AVO shocks, 7/8 anti-roll bar and all poly bushes. A full Broadsport front brake upgrade with 3:1 Girling servo was fitted and the car completed to a wonderful, high standard.

There is no doubt if looking for rarity and exclusivity in an XK150, this original right hand drive car must be given serious consideration. Not only is this a beautifully presented car, it has been rebuilt by some of the top specialists in the XK world and limited mileage has been covered since. The subtle upgrades on the car improve drivability with better brakes, a five speed gearbox, discrete power steering and suspension improvements ensuring the ride and handling are exceptional. This is a magnificent car, we rarely see factory XK 150 S DHC's and this is without doubt a superb driving, top class example that will suit the most discerning of buyers.
