Description
Period competition history
Older restoration by marque expert David Barber
Fitted with the more powerful 3.5L pre war engine
This car is one of the last produced 2.5L cars being registered in April 1939 by Birmingham dealer P.J. Evans to first owner Denis Patterson. Within a month of taking delivery, Patterson was competing in the RSAC Scottish Rally in the car. The original buff continuation logbook contained in the history file, issued some time prior to 1954, records the owner by then to be renowned sculptor Sir Jacob Epstein, there is a wonderful photograph in the Tate Collection of Epstein’s son Jackie sitting in a black SS100, marked to the reverse “Jackie at Hyde Pk Gate”. 1969 saw the car sold to World’s leading SS expert and restorer David Barber, who’s company DCM Auto Service undertook a complete restoration. The car was then sold to Lord O’Neill who would keep it for a further 38 years. Accompanied by a generous history file and some lovely period photos this SS100 is a wonderful entry into some of the world most prestigious events.
