Description

  • Fahrzeugstandort: Bovenden, Sonnenblende

    - Iconic sports coupé microcar

    - Formerly in a German museum for many years

    - Acquired for the collection in 2001

    - Registered in the EU, in Ireland

The beautiful coupé version of the Goggomobil brought style and a sporty appearance to the microcar world and was ahead of its time. This later model is a steel-bodied notchback coupé with very attractive lines and excellent visibility and has conventionally hinged doors rather than the 'suicide' doors of the earlier version. According to the vendor it is a pleasure to drive and highly manoeuvrable with excellent roadholding. This was the first car our vendor acquired for his collection and is understood to have been in a German museum for many years prior to its purchase in 2001.

The car is powered by a 245cc twin-cylinder air-cooled two-stroke engine, which drives via a four-speeds-plus-reverse gearbox. Maximum power output is 13.6hp at 5,000rpm and the fuel consumption a frugal 50.5 miles per imperial gallon (5.59 litres/100 kilometres). The car's maximum speed is 75km/h (47mph) and it is said to drive well through all gears. Suspension is independent all round by means of coil springs and swing axles. This charming little Goggomobil is described as in excellent condition, benefiting from recent professional re-upholstery, while its Cherry and Cream two-tone colour scheme is the original and most iconic.

The Goggomobil has successfully participated in numerous rallies including the modern Gordon Bennett Rally, and has received many awards including at the Lyons Club Motor Show and the 2018 RIAC National Classic Car Show 2018. Accompanying documentation consists of an EU registration certificate; original sales brochure; service and repair manual; and an original workshop manual (in German).
