The fourth generation Ford Thunderbird was produced by Ford for the 1964 to 1966 model years. Ford restyled this generation of the Thunderbird in favour of a more squared-off, 'formal' look. The only remnant of the Thunderbird's former sporty image was that the standard 390 cubic inch 300bhp V8 engine pushing the car to 60mph in 11 seconds. The softly sprung suspension allowed considerable comfort. The revised model was initially offered as a hardtop, convertible, and Landau, with vinyl roof, simulated landau irons, and wood grain interior appointments. The sports Roadster was discontinued for this generation, however, a dealer offered convertible tonneau cover and wire wheels option was still available. Total 1964 sales were excellent at 92,465, up nearly fifty percent from the previous year. The 1964 Thunderbird was the only model of this generation to have the word 'Thunderbird' spelled out on the front hood instead of a chrome Thunderbird emblem. The transmission was the Cruise-O-Matic MX 3 speed automatic and the listed retail price for the 1964 two-door hardtop coupe was $4,486 near $50,000 dollars in today's money.

This example of the 1965 coupe is presented in cream paintwork with a contrasting black vinyl roof and painted black fenders and bonnet scoop for a sportier look. First registered in 1965, this example was imported to the UK in 2019 and has had two owners since. Boasting the 6.4 litre V8 and typical Cadillac luxury inside it has recently benefited from a light recommission and remains the imposing car it would have been 60 years ago. The rear lights, which are currently upgraded to LED units provide a custom look but the original lights are also supplied with the car.
