History of the Series
The Ferrari 550 Maranello, first introduced in 1996 and launched on the international market in 1997, was Ferrari's response to the growing competition in the high-performance grand tourer segment. The development of the 550 Maranello marked Ferrari's return to a classic front-engine V12 concept, a layout that had not been seen in Ferrari's top models since the legendary 365 GTB/4 "Daytona" of the early 1970s.

The 550 Maranello was designed in close collaboration with British designer Ian Callum, who was then working with Pininfarina. The focus was on a sleek yet powerful design that conveyed both elegance and aggression. The silhouette was smooth and aerodynamic, featuring classic round headlights and a long hood that concealed the potent V12 engine. The 5.5-liter V12 delivered 485 hp at 7,000 rpm, propelling the 550 Maranello from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds – remarkable performance for its time.

Technically advanced and engineered for peak performance, the V12 engine positioned at the front of the vehicle allowed for a nearly perfect 50:50 weight distribution, making the car particularly stable and enjoyable to drive. The 550 Maranello’s suspension system featured an independent double-wishbone setup at both front and rear, complemented by modern shock absorbers that could adjust according to driving conditions. This configuration enabled precise and stable handling, suitable for both track and road use.

Another key feature of the 550 was its six-speed manual transmission, renowned for its precision and the characteristic metallic shift sound. The vehicle could reach a top speed of around 320 km/h, exemplifying Ferrari’s uncompromising dedication to performance.

Inside, the Ferrari 550 Maranello was both luxurious and sporty. The driver-focused cockpit incorporated premium materials like leather and aluminum, blending comfort with sportiness. Classic analog instruments were arranged in a way that provided the driver with direct access to essential information. The sport seats were designed to combine comfort and support, ensuring maximum stability even at high speeds.

The Ferrari 550 Maranello quickly became a collector’s item and a modern classic. It represented a turning point in Ferrari’s automotive philosophy, as it perfected the combination of traditional GT performance with modern technology. Production of the 550 Maranello ceased in 2002, succeeded by the 575 Maranello, which further evolved this concept. Nonetheless, the 550 remains a milestone in Ferrari's history, embodying the brand's storied philosophy of seamlessly merging speed, design, and driving experience.

The vehicle is located in our showroom in Stuttgart-Plieningen, close to the airport/trade fair. A test drive and an inspection on the car lift are possible by arrangement.

The sale takes place on request with new inspection, service and TÜV. We also offer a wide range of accessories for your new dream car. If required, we can also deliver the vehicle to you in a closed trailer.
