This automobile: According to information available from a well-known Ferrari archive (not the factory archive), this Ferrari 512 BB was manufactured in September 1976 and is the 17th 512 BB built. The first delivery was made via the general importer in France, Charles Pozzi. According to documents, the first registration took place later in 1979. The original delivery colour scheme was Rosso Chiaro (red, colour code 20-R-190) with leather interior Nero (black, colour code VM 8500). The car still has this classic colour combination today. On this example, the side panelling and the front and rear aprons are also in red – on many vehicles, these are finished in contrasting black. The car later moved to Vicenza (Italy) and was registered there until 2013. In 2012, the sports car underwent a comprehensive restoration at Autofficina Bonini Carlo S.R.L. in Italy. In 2014, the 512 BB arrived in Austria and was then sold in 2015 via a well-known Ferrari dealer in Austria to the last owner in Germany in the Munich area. It was registered there and was regularly serviced and driven in a local garage. The engine is ‘Matching Numbers’ and corresponds to the delivery. Recently, a major service including a timing belt change and various overhauls to the chassis were carried out and new tyres fitted. The invoice for this work is worth EUR 16,500. Therefore this 512 BB in the sought-after early carburettor version is ready for immediate use and can enrich a sports car or Ferrari collection.
**Model history: **The Ferrari 512 BB made its debut at the Paris Motor Show in 1976. It was a further development of the 365 GT4 BB, which had already been introduced in 1971 and was Ferrari's first 12-cylinder car to have a rear-mid engine. This layout had first gone into series production in 1966 in the Lamborghini Miura and became increasingly popular in high-performance sports cars. The large engine hatch, which encompassed the entire rear body, was also inspired by the Miura. The designation 512 referred to 5.0 litres of displacement and 12 cylinders. It thus differed from the previous nomenclature for V12 engines, where the individual displacement per cylinder in cubic centimetres always gave the type designation. The new engine of the 512 BB had the same output of 360 hp as the 365 GT4 BB. However, it required lower revs and offered better torque and smoother power transmission. The Pininfarina-designed body was modified from the previous model only in details. These included four exhaust tailpipes and four rear lights. A small front spoiler, a new bonnet and additional NACA air intakes in front of the rear wheels were also fitted. Wider tyres were part of the changes, as was a slightly wider and longer rear end. Some modifications were not only of an optical nature but above all improved the cooling of the engine. Until 1981 929 examples of the 512 BB were produced. Then another modification followed, in which the carburettors were replaced by a mechanical intake manifold injection system. From then on, the model was called 512 BBi – the "i" stood for Iniezione (injection).
