Description

The Corvette C1 has a body made of fibreglass-reinforced synthetic resin, which is still used on the Corvette today. This saved weight and production is relatively simple today.

The first fundamental exterior redesign of the Corvette took place in 1956.

The tail fins disappeared completely, replaced by side indentations behind the front wheels and the first two-tone paintwork in the model's history.

Outer door handles and side windows with window cranks were another innovation of this year.

The hardtop was supplied ex works.

The headlights, which had previously been integrated into the bodywork, were now exposed and protruded slightly, while the rear lights, which were still protruding on the first Corvette, were now integrated into the rear wings.

There was a choice of additional paint finishes and interior colours.

With the revised chassis, the Corvette was able to put even more power on the road. Sales figures rose to 3467 vehicles in 1956.

Instead of the previous six-cylinder engine, they opted for a ‘small-block’ V8 with an initial displacement of 4.3 litres (265 in3) and 143 kW (195 bhp) at 5000 rpm. The first Chevrolet ‘small-block’ V8 engine and thus the first Corvette V8 engine was launched in 1955.

A large ‘V’ in the name ‘CheVrolet’ on the sides of the front wings showed that a vehicle was motorised with it.

With this change, the Corvette developed into a genuine sports car with very good driving performance.

The Corvette with the V8 engine accelerated from 0 to approx. 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds.

This Corvette was very well and extensively restored in the USA.

A slightly more powerful engine block was also installed in the USA and the original carburettor system was reused.

The engine is registered and fits the vehicle very well.

The current owner found the car at the Beverly Hills Car Club and brought it to Germany.

We checked the car completely and carried out a major inspection.

The car then passed a full inspection and received an H licence plate.

In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful and best Corvettes of this model year.

Due to the very small number of only 3467 units and the exceptionally good condition, this vehicle is a sought-after collector's car.

The car can be taken over and registered immediately.
