Description

The BMW E9 2800CS was introduced in 1968 to replace the smaller 4-cylinder 2000CS model. The 2800CS E9 was lighter than its predecessor and was now equipped with the same 2788cc straight-six engine found in the BMW E3 series. With 168 hp, it was a fast car for its time. Production continued until 1971, when engine sizes increased to 3 liters.

Exterior: The BMW 2800 CS looks very elegant in this dark blue (Atlantic Blau) solid color, with all the new chrome details providing a striking contrast. The paint quality is exceptionally good, with a deep and glossy finish. This car has undergone an extensive restoration and is 100% rust-free. It features excellent panel gaps all around and looks just as good underneath as it does on top. It rides on a new set of aluminum spoke wheels fitted with brand-new 205/55 R16 tires.

Interior: BMW used a velvet-like material in the interior, giving the car a very exclusive feel. In this 2800 CS, everything is new, including the carpet and headliner. The refurbished wood panels look amazing and add a touch of warmth to the otherwise rather strict and functional dashboard. The dashboard and all instruments are in perfect condition and fully operational. Although the BMW E9 is a coupé, it is spacious enough to comfortably accommodate four normal-sized adults.

Engine and Mechanics: The restoration of this BMW E9 2800 CS began with a bare metal body. The small amount of rust that was found was carefully repaired. The reason there was not much rust is the fact that the car came from a dry climate in Italy. Once the bodywork was completed, the car was reassembled using many new components. Today, the car is back on the road and has been driven a few thousand kilometers to test and fine-tune all functions.

  • New bearings, piston rings, and fully rebuilt head

  • Gearbox new bearing and gaskets. New clutch

  • Rear axle checked and fitted with new seals, drive shaft balanced.

  • Everything in the brake system new.

History: The 2800CS was sold new in Rome, Italy, and remained there until 1982, when it was taken off the road. The car belonged to Diego Cugia. In Italy famous writer, journalist, director and radio, television author. It sat unused for many years until the restoration began. All the work done has been documented with photos and invoices. The BMW still has its original, “matching-numbers” engine. It comes today with Italian papers and can be registered anywhere in the EU.
