Description

A former marine engineer, Ernest Ballot founded his company in Paris in 1910 to manufacture engines for automobiles and stationary use. By 1919 Ballot was producing complete chassis incorporating exotic, twin-cam, multi-valve engines designed for racing. As well as the French, Italian and Spanish Grands Prix, Ballot entered the Targa Florio and Indianapolis 500, winning several events with spectacular performances. However, these racers were expensive and had a limited market, so from 1921 a 2LS road car was offered, based on the 2-litre four-cylinder racer, boasting twin overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder. From this, Ballot developed the 2LT and 2LTS single-cam models. Introduced in 1924 and known as the ‘Touring Sport’, the 2LTS boasted a tuned engine, freer revving than the standard tourer’s, that produced 60bhp. A stronger gearbox and transmission also was provided.
An advanced, high performance design incorporating front wheel brakes, the 2LTS was offered with a variety of coachbuilt bodies from saloon to two-seater sports.
We bought this rare car from an estate , not used for several years , but now running and driving.

It was restored in the 1980’s , the previous owner bought from a collection in Belgium in the 1990’s. Then often used for touring.

**Paint and interior are old.
Included in the sale are some rare spare parts as a cylinder block and head , alternator and starter. **
