This Austin-Healey 3000 MKII ‘Ruddspeed tuned’ has been totally restored. The car is newly built around the original Ruddspeed engine of ex rally driver Egon Grabowski and is ideally suited for rally and tour rally enthusiasts, as well as for people who love history and owning a Healey 3000 with more power (approx. 178 hp) than any other standard version. Its history and rally past (including Tulip rally, SLS, Sauerlandrally) is richly documented. In 1966, the Healey sustained side damage during the tulip rally, ending up in the corner of a garage. In 1990, the current owner bought the Healey without realising the history behind the damaged rally car. After this fact became more and more clear, he decided to carry out a full restoration. Guided by the knowledge of Egon Grabowski himself, they set to work. Given the fact surrounding the crash and the almost irreparable damage, it was decided to build a new body with chassis around the legendary ‘Ruddspeedhart’ (approx. 178 hp). The factory-supplied colour is Ivory White, however, Grabowski at the time had the car repainted in the beautiful silver-grey metallic colour ‘Silver Bullet Gray Metallic’ Once again, they opted for this powerful colour, fully matching the look, professionally applied in 2 components.

The engine with Ruddspeed modifications, the 3 SU carburettors and gearbox have been totally revamped and an enlarged radiator has been fitted for cooling. An aluminium tank with a larger capacity has been fitted in the boot and houses the power switch. The grey painted wire-spoked wheels (72 spokes) with Michelin tyres 185HR15 are also still like new. The Healey is technically and mechanically in full working order, see also the valuation report.
The new red interior with rally accessories (Halda Speedpilot, stopwatches, reading lamp and spotlight) is in perfect condition and combines tastefully with the silver-grey metallic colour. The black fabric hood in mohair finish is also new and in good condition. The chrome work and polished stainless steel parts are nice and flawless. The stainless steel exhaust system with ‘side pipes’ provides an insane sound.
Reports with historical photos, participation lists and results can be found in the documentation. Much of the history relates to the well-known Tulip Rally where Grabowski won many prizes and good placings. Some of the trophies won are present with the car. In short: A very special Austin-Healey 3000 MK2 in which much attention has been paid to technique and restoration, plus a unique story and a lot of history of which you will not find a second one!

General information about the Austin-Healey 3000
The Austin-Healey 3000 entered the market in 1959 and was produced through 1967. The 3000 was the successor to the 100-6. This previous model had an engine with less displacement (2.6 litres) and less horsepower compared to the 3000 which featured a 3-litre engine with 130 hp. Austin Healey's were very successful at races and rallies at the time. An example is BMC team driver Pat Moss, sister of sir Stirling Moss. She finished 4th in the Liege-Rome-Liège Rally in Belgium in an Austin-Healey 100/6 and won the first of her five Women's European Rally Championships. In 1960, Moss took overall victory at Liege-Rome-Liege in an Austin-Healey 3000 and finished 2nd in the Coupe des Alpes. The MkII received a facelift in 1962 with the MkIIA. This car had swing-down side windows and an easy-to-operate roof. This made it the most popular version of the ‘Big Healey's’ and 6,113 were built.
