Description

This beautifully presented RHD matching numbers Austin Healey 100/6 BN4 was built on the 16th-18th December 1957 and supplied new in Ivory White with Red upholstery. The Four seater Healey was built for the LHD North American Import market and was sold new in San Francisco with optional equipment to include wire wheels, overdrive, heater and laminated windscreen. 338 UXL came into the UK in 2001 through a North Yorkshire Healey specialist who then supplied the car requiring restoration work to its first UK owners based near Leeds who spent many years working for one of the UK’s leading classic car parts suppliers.

From 2001 to 2005 the Healey was restored to a very high standard, the body was treated to new sills and floors, and then stripped back and fully re-painted. The Healey was mechanically overhauled, converted to right hand drive specification, the engine stripped down and rebuilt as required and the interior of the car beautifully re-upholstered. The 100/6 was built up to a very high standard with a stunning engine bay, the chassis was cleaned and re-painted, and many ancillaries replaced and re-furbished. The brightwork was re-chromed, and wheels and tyres replaced and from completion in 2005 to first arriving with us in late 2022 had covered minimal miles, used for local shows and events and kept in excellent condition throughout.

‘¬The Healey had spent almost 22 years with one owner, but due to the minimal mileage in late 2022 we carried out some major re-commissioning to include re-lining brake shoes, replacing front and rear wheel cylinders, replacing the rocker cover gasket, fitting a new master cylinder, carrying out a major service and fitting a set of new Michelin tyres due to their age. Due to an inoperative overdrive, we sent this away for re-conditioning and with the gearbox removed replaced the clutch. The Healey was then collected and driven faultlessly to its new owners home in Knaresborough where its been based since. In 18 months of ownership the Healey has had an upgraded Kevlar hoses, a new sports coil, a rebuilt dynamo, a thick grip MotoLita steering wheel and for enhanced looks rally over riders and mounting brackets for spot lamps as the car has been de-bumpered.

On the road this Austin Healey is impressive with a delightful, strong engine holding excellent oil pressure and the car has been driven back over to us from Knaresborough performing faultlessly even through heavy Friday afternoon traffic. The gearbox is lovely to use, the overdrive comes in and out smoothly and the car handles very well. It's a tight driving car, brakes feel sharp and its clear form the impressive engine bay the car has been superbly maintained and detailed throughout ownership. Many years on since the rebuild this car is very sharp, the body is excellent, the paintwork beautifully aged as has the upholstery. The underside is incredibly clean, and the car presents ready to take to a local show or event with pride. Mechanically on the button, the 100/6 would make an excellent regular use classic capable of serious touring and has the provenance of matching numbers, original colours and just two UK owners making this a very attractive example.
