Audi presented an early concept of the S2 under the name "Turbo Quattro Coupé" at the 1989 IAA at the booth of Schmidt Motorsport GmbH (later SMS Engineering) from Cadolzburg, Franconia, where development also took place after internal studies. Closely connected to Audi Sport, the company built competition vehicles for Audi and also served as a racing team. Company head Konrad Schmidt recalls that his team fitted the car with black wheels – a shock for Audi's board of directors.

The production version debuted in October 1990 at the Birmingham Motor Show, and sales began in December. Later, Schmidt introduced an SMS-S2-Revo version with 286 hp (not distributed by Audi). Audi's then-CEO Ferdinand Piëch was reportedly very impressed by the engine. Eventually, he commissioned Porsche to develop an engine for the RS2 Avant, offering almost the same performance as the Revo. However, an Audi-planned RS 2 Coupé remained a one-off, just like an S2 Coupé with four-wheel steering. A total of 7,370 S2 models were produced until 1995.

This S2 Quattro was owned by a mechanic from 2008 until March 2023, who maintained it with great care. In the second half of 2023, the car underwent major servicing and received four new tires and wheels.

Mechanically, the car is in very good condition; the engine runs like clockwork. Aesthetically, the interior is in good condition, and the paint looks good but is not perfect. The exhaust is not original, but the original one is included with the car.

The "plus" of this vehicle is undoubtedly its (very) low mileage (it covered just under 12,000 kilometers from early 2013 to late 2022, with regular and consistent use).

If necessary, the car will be submitted for a technical inspection in Belgium after a check of the various control points.
