*Aston Martin MkII 1.5 L Short Wheelbase – A Rare Car with Racing Heritage
*
If you thought Aston Martins were only sophisticated James Bond cars, think again. This Aston Martin MkII from 1934 proves that even with a modest engine, you can race impressively and secure a spot in the history books. More on that later. This model is the perfect example of a spartan British sports car from the 1930s.

This 1934 Aston Martin MkII is not only rare — with just 48 examples produced in the short-wheelbase variant like this one — but also boasts a story that reads like an exciting novel. And honestly, that's exactly what we love at Gallery Aaldering!

*Rare Short Wheelbase Version
*
This MkII is the short-wheelbase version, which means it's wonderfully agile. With a weight of approximately 950 kg, you’ll feel its sporting nature in every corner. Combine this with its modest yet fantastic 1.5-liter ACT engine featuring two SU carburetors, and the result is a truly sporty and potent classic. And trust us: it sounds incredible as well.

*Impressive Racing History
*
But it’s not just the engineering that impresses — this Aston Martin boasts an impressive racing pedigree. In 1934, this car participated in the famous Tourist Trophy race as part of John Hodges' team. During this event, this Aston Martin achieved second place in its class at the Craigantlet Hill Climb in Northern Ireland.

The car was originally delivered on June 9, 1934, to a C. Lindsay from County Antrim, Ireland. And this owner knew exactly what to do with it: race it! Fortunately, this racing history is well documented in the extensive archive accompanying the car. The documentation includes correspondence letters dating back over 50 years, original road tests, and invoices from restoration work and other maintenance records, some dating back half a century.

Following its racing adventures, this Aston Martin embarked on an exciting journey: from Ireland to Germany, then via the Netherlands, ultimately finding a home in the prestigious Evert Louwman Collection, where it remained for over 30 years as part of a true enthusiast's collection. During this period, it was meticulously maintained by Morntane Engineering, specialists in these exquisite Bertelli Aston Martins.

*Excellently Restored and Overhauled
*
In 2012, this Aston Martin was sold and underwent a comprehensive and exceptional restoration. The paintwork was finished in a stunning period-correct green with an authentic racing patina, giving it a fantastic yet well-cared-for character. The black leather upholstery presents beautifully, and the striking dashboard with its correct gauges completes the classic look.

The engine starts instantly, sounds wonderfully sporty, and runs like a dream. Thanks to its lightweight design and superb technical condition, this Aston Martin delivers a surprisingly impressive driving experience.

This is, without a doubt, a rare and remarkable Aston Martin. Enthusiasts often regard it as an icon of the Bertelli era, a gem for collectors, and simply a joy to drive. Whether you want to participate in sporting rallies or impress at a concours d’élégance, this MkII can do it all.

In short, this is a rare, sporty Aston Martin with a rich history and a presence that continues to steal hearts — every single time.
