Description

1963 Aston Martin DB5 LHD

This is beyond special for all of us at McGurk.

In short we have project managed the restoration using the best Aston Martin DB5 experts England has to offer to include Adrian Johnson and R.S.Williams.

1334 is a matching numbers car. The engine has been upgraded to Vantage specification.

Supplied on 26th November 1963 to Mr P H Folwell of Bronxville, New York courtesy of the Aston Martin agent in Inskip.
Specified by Mr Folwell with Air Conditioning, Heated Rear Screen, 3.54 Axle Ratio and a Motorola Radio with Power Ariel but most importantly finished in California Sage over White Gold Leather.
Little is known about the cars time in the US. What we do know is in 1974 the car was repainted in Silver Birch and trimmed with Black leather. An electric sliding sunroof was also installed. We know this because the technician who installed the roof kindly signed and dated it for us in 1976.
In 1987 the car was sold to a dealer who shipped it to Paris and the car was sold at Auction to Monsier Jean Marie Cousty of Paris. Jean Marie was already a member of the Aston Martin Owners club and a passionate Aston owner. During his ownership the car was maintained by Garage Lamy including in the late 90’s an engine rebuild with all parts supplied by Newport Pagnell. The turn of the Millenium saw Jean Marie finally part with the car and she was registered in Holland. At some point the car had a minor collision to the front drivers side. It appears the car was stripped of paint in order to be rectified but for reasons unknown this never happened. She lay in storage untouched until 2020 when she was sold to a classic car dealer in the UK who had brokered a deal with their client. However as the car landed in the UK so did Covid and lockdown meant that the purchaser could not travel from Asia to view her. The agreement was cancelled and it was at that point McGurk received a phone call. After an inspection we couldn’t believe our luck. The important part of this car was its originality and by that we mean the panels, the door shuts, the boot everything lined up perfectly. The underneath was in fantastic condition too. Although she looked sad from the outside she shone on the inside. The leather was a perfect representation of her life and we have preserved that to this day.
After careful consideration a full two year restoration was undertaken. The car was taken back to a bare shell and rebuilt from the ground up. All works carried out were performed by the best skilled Aston Martin professionals the UK has to offer. The results are outstanding.
In short the engine has been stripped, inspected and re built. The gearbox also rebuilt by BPA. The suspension has been upgraded to fast road specification. The engine to Vantage specification. The body has been fully removed and stripped of all previous paint to bare metal and repainted in the correct period shade of California Sage. All components fitted were new and purchased from Aston Martin only. Since her completion we have covered over 1,000 klms and she has been a thrill. The interior we chose to preserve. It has so much charm, it felt right to us.

This car is extremely rare not just being a left hand drive DB5 nor that it has been fully rebuilt but also finished in California Sage.
We welcome any interest in our beloved DB5. There is so much to talk about we would be delighted to talk through all aspects of this DB5.
