Description

The DB2 marked the revival of Aston Martin, which had been weakened by years of war in Europe. It was the brainchild of a certain David Brown, whose initials the model in question took as its name, that this sporty yet grand touring model was born at the dawn of the Fifties. Initially a coupé with a fastback rear end, the DB2 gained in space in 1954 and evolved into a 4-seater coupé (2/4 seater in English), becoming the DB2/4. The 'DB' line continues to write the Gaydon company's letters of nobility today, thanks to the quality of its manufacture and its elegance.

Our car rolled off the production line on 22 August 1957 and entered service on 16 September of that same year. It was part of the third and final series, with 551 chassis and the largest engine. The odometer shows an unguaranteed 71,692 miles and the vehicle has been refurbished by its current owner so that it is in perfect condition. Accident free, MOT, carvertical and histovec reports available, Aston Martin certificate of authenticity and recent history available on request. Car registered in France with collector's registration, vehicules visible in the Carcassonne region.

ENGINE AND GEARBOX

On this tubular chassis, the Lagonda 6-cylinder engine with a total displacement of 2922 cm3 and twelve valves is very pleasant to use, with 197 bhp sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual gearbox. The raucous, metallic sound is very pleasant, while the bestiality of the engine contrasts with the refinement of the rest of the vehicle. Once on the road, the engine's thrust is straightforward and linear, with no jerks or dips in power. Numerous repairs and improvements have been carried out by the owner, who is used to working on this type of engine. These include new cylinder head gaskets on a rectified cylinder head, replaced timing chains, a new ignition system, overhauled carburettors and new stainless steel silencers. Parts and service invoices available on request. Last serviced at the end of 2022 by Ernesto's Garage, specialists in British cars.

EXTERIOR

In its classic but sublime non-original British Racing Green color, which has been completely redone, the all-aluminIum bodywork offers sublime volumes that we owe to the Touring bodywork for its design and production by Mulliner. The main changes to the DB 4-seater were an 18-centimeter longer wheelbase and higher headlamps. The 16-inch spoked wheels are in perfect condition, as is the chrome. There are no signs of corrosion on the bodywork, wheel arches or underpinnings.

INTERIOR

The cabin welcomes its occupants in a very 'British' spirit, making generous use of noble materials such as precious woods on the dashboard, beautiful aluminium inserts and chrome, not to mention the use of high-quality beige connolly leather. The wraparound sports seats, rear bench seat and door jambs are in more than satisfactory condition, as are the carpets and dashboard. All the Smiths instrumentation is in working order.

CONSUMABLES

In terms of consumables, the 185 R16 93V Vredestein Speed Classic 2018 tyres are in near-new condition and will still cover many kilometers, while the brakes are also maintenance-free, having been serviced in March 2023.
