Description

1933 Alvis Speed 20 SB, The Monte Carlo Rally car.
Chassis number: 10912
Registration Number: KV6669
An historically important Alvis Speed 20 SB series car. Kenneth Sanderson ordereed this car new in 1933 with a cross & Ellis 4 door touring body. He immediately entered it in the 1934 Monte Carlo Rally where he finished the event & was awared 2nd prize in the followong concours d'elegance for cars over 1.5 litres. The car was ordered new with special rear springs for improved ground clearance, An extra spare wheel & Dunlop competition tyres, from a most comprehensive specification that covers an A4 sheet.
Today the car is in really superb fettle having had a massive engine rebuild & sorting of all other mechanical items as shown in the following photographs. The car now wears an elegant Vanden Plas style 2 door body well suited to the cars sporting prowess.
Frankly, this is one of those cars you need to drive to appreciate just how good it is. The car starts instantly with a very throaty exhaust note & really has serious performance. The current owner who owns an engineering shop has done a simply amazing job on the engine as told by the assorted photographs of the no expense spared rebuild he did on it.
The green paintwork presents very well being of recent origin. Likewise the red leather interior is in really really fine order. The rear boot folds open to reveal a stainless steel fuel tank with a useful luggage platform on top. The dash has a full quota of original instruments which are refinished & appear as new. A tonneau cover comes with the car as does a bolt on hood frame & hood which has not been ever used in the current owners tenure.
To sum up; This is a car that wants for nothing, drives far better then when new & is ready for extended high speed motoring either here or to Monte Carlo?
