Description

History of the Alfa Romeo GT Bertone

1963 was an important year in automotive history. A whole series of automotive icons were presented at the IAA in Frankfurt, such as the Porsche 901, the first Pagoda and also the new Alfa Coupé. The new cars were intended to be sober, streamlined, harmonious and functional. The Alfa Romeo Bertone Junior was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro from Bertone and was one of the most timeless and beautiful designs from this company. Under the bonnet was Alfa Romeo's famous twin-cylinder engine, which made its debut in the Giulietta in 1953 and ten years later was still one of the best four-cylinder engines in the world: a light alloy block and cylinder head, two overhead camshafts and a solid duplex chain as the camshaft drive, plus two twin carburettors in the case of the coupé, combined with the sophisticated chassis and four disc brakes as standard, made the heart of any sporty, ambitious driver beat faster. The racing versions 1300 or 1600 GTA ran circles around the competition and even the Alfa facelift with a smoothed front end, which was missed at the beginning of the 1970s, did not detract from the commercial success. The Bertone GT collected trophies by the dozen on the racetracks, even after production had been discontinued! Well over 200,000 units left the factory in Arese/Italy. Unfortunately, corrosion and poorly repaired accident damage took their toll on the coupés in the following years and the worldwide stock was significantly reduced.

Vita of the GT Junior 1300 (AR 105.30)  offered here

The Alfa Romeo GT Junior 1300 offered here is one of the last built ‘scalino’.  This Alfa was first delivered and registered in Germany. In the meantime, it changed hands once until it came into the hands of a German Alfa collector living on the Côte d'Azur in 2016. He was immediately fascinated by the untouched original and unwelded condition with more than 90% original paintwork and immediately added this bonnet to his extraordinary classic car collection. The Alfa Classic Centre (ACC) in Dortmund then immediately carried out following works: ACC suspension with Koni red, trailing arm rear axle with reinforced bushes, front axle completely re-mounted, brake system completely renewed, installation of tinted discs all round, and the bodywork was cavity-sealed and the paintwork and interior lovingly refurbished with Swissvax. The engine is of course ‘matching’ and the entire vehicle has a total mileage of only 65,797 km to date. The interior is original and in fantastic condition. The first owner also added an oil temperature gauge to the instruments. This Alfa Romeo currently has deregistered Monegasque registration papers. Of course, copies of the German registration papers are still available, so that registration in both Germany and France is simplified. Italian ‘Dolce-Vita’ is guaranteed with this beautiful coupé.

Summary

In short, a ravishing icon awaits the friend of Italian driving culture. Pure driving pleasure, the fascinating twin-camshaft engine, the timeless design, the marvellous sporty driving comfort, all this is a beguiling mix whose fascination continues even after more than 60 years. It is extremely rare to find an edge bonnet like this one in its original, untampered with and unwelded condition.  Spare parts are still available at affordable prices. We, or our new sister company Scuderia Sportiva Servizio (ex Alfa Classic Centre) in Dortmund, will be happy to take over the service and spare parts supply.

We are selling this Alfa Romeo on behalf of the owner (agency business). This offer is non-binding and subject to prior sale. We provide support with registration/registration in Germany.
