The demanding development of the Alfasud, for which the Pomigliano d’Arco plant was built, enabled Alfa Romeo to launch a mid-range car as the entry-level model of its lineup for the first time. Shortly before the tenth anniversary of the model, the Alfa Romeo management, building on the growing success of the model's evolution, wanted to initiate a new project to create a worthy successor.

An initial commission was given to Giorgetto Giugiaro, who had already been involved in designing the Alfasud: the designer presented a proposal for an attractive sedan. However, the choice fell on the original design by the newly appointed director of the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, architect Ermanno Cressoni, together with Ernesto Cattoni. The design of the Alfa Romeo “33,” particularly emphasized during the vehicle’s launch, featured hints of a horizontal trunk, while retaining the rear hatch hinged at the roof – an element that classified it as a “fastback sedan.”

The new Alfa Romeo 33 was launched in the summer of 1983, adopting the platform – as it was called at the time – the engines, the gearbox, and parts of the suspension from the Alfasud. Nevertheless, the design elements were completely different, especially at the rear: overall, the lines were clearer and sharper, marking a stylistic shift that aligned more with 1980s tastes.

This 1984 Alfa Romeo belongs to the first series and is completely original.

It features the top trim level of the model range of that time: Quadrofolio Oro. Besides its low mileage of only 89,000 km, it is also ASI-registered and in excellent condition.

Some work has been carried out:

• Engine completely overhauled in 2017.
• Replacement of the gearbox, oil seals, and complete clutch kit.
• Renewal of the electrical system.

• Complete filter service (Motul 6100 10w40 oil).
• Replacement of front shock absorbers.
• Convergence and alignment check.
• Replacement of wheel bearings and control arms.
• Cooling system cleaning.
• Complete carburetor overhaul.
• Replacement of NGK spark plugs.
• Overhaul of the braking system with replacement of front brake pads, hoses, and caliper refurbishment.
• Replacement of clutch kit and clutch cylinders.

A perfect car with no further work required, ready to drive any distance without issues.
