By the late 1950s, Alfa Romeo had become a top tier name in the world of sports cars with adequate performance both on and off the track. Despite the reliable power derived from the 2000 series inline four-cylinder cars, Alfa Romeo saw the need for a larger, more powerful engine. The new flagship models, the 2600 were introduced at the 1962 Geneva Motor Show. The coachbuilt Sprint by Bertone and the Spider convertible by Carrozzeria Touring in Milan were expensive and were rare even when new due to being constructed by hand. While the coachbuilt examples would represent the last of the hand assembled Alfa Romeos, it was the 2600 Spider by Touring that was fit for long distance driving. It offered drivers a sense of style, performance and comfort that could only come from Italy. The 2600 models would be the last inline six-cylinder Alfa Romeos to feature dual overhead camshafts and as a result are some of the most sought-after classics by Alfa Romeo enthusiasts and collectors today.

Originally registered on 16th July 1964 this 2600 Spider presents beautifully, having been restored to a very high standard. Of the 2,255 cars manufactured only 102 were made in right hand drive, this example is number 82 out of the 102. The bodywork has been taken care of and the sills repaired to a high standard, the red paintwork is of a particularly high quality and photographic evidence is available to confirm the attention to detail. The black leather has been retrimmed, again to a very high standard and the soft top is also new. A hardtop is available which has also been refurbished. The engine has been fully rebuilt by marque specialist Bob Dove Motorsport. It has covered less than 200 miles since the rebuild and as such will need to be treated gently during the bedding in period. The carburettors have also been rebuilt. The result of this comprehensive list of work is an Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider that is ready to be enjoyed immediately. The car is currently owned by the registrar of the AROC register. This stunning Alfa Romeo 2600 Spider was selected for display as one of the top Alfa Romeos displayed in the 60 years of AROC display at The National Alfa Day at Bicester in August 2024. For touring or investment, this is a first-class example in one of the best colour combinations and must be one of the best 2600 Spiders available today. Consigned by Stewart Banks.

Sales Room Notice:
Interested parties should note that whilst the engine has recently been rebuilt, the vendor has made us aware of a problem with the oil pressure. He thinks there is a problem with the pressure relief valve. The car runs and drives well, it was driven here, but the oil pressure takes some 7 or 8 seconds to register on start-up. We can recommend an Alfa Romeo specialist should a new owner need one.
