Description

Alfa Rome 1750 Berlina 1970 single family from new

•The sedan preferred by nobles and bandits in the 70s
•Single family from 1970 to today
•2024 fresh cosmetic restoration

Officially presented to the public on 17 January 1968, at the Brussels Motor Show, the "1750" re-proposes the technical standards of the "Giulia", without however following its stylistic ones. The launch price was L. 1,865,000 ex-dealership IGE included, stabilizing in the following months at L. 1,950,000.
Compared to the "Giulia", the "1750 Berlina" increases the wheelbase by only 6 cm, but the front and rear overhangs are increased, until reaching a length of 4.39 mt, gaining those 25 cm more that allow it to aspire to a higher category. Expertly dressed by Bertone, a car is born with sporty characteristics in driving, but with the sober and elegant appearance that one expects from a car of this class. The self-supporting body maintains the differentiated structure with progressive deformation. The engine-gearbox block with rear-wheel drive achieves an excellent balance of operation. The essential technical differences, compared to the "Giulia", concern the hydraulic clutch control, the alternator instead of the dynamo, the addition of a limiting valve on the braking system to prevent the rear wheels from locking and the improvement of the trim with lowered front and rear roll centres, in addition to the 14" wheels. The engine displacement was increased from 1,570 to 1,779 cm³, by means of a slight increase in the bore and a more significant increase in the stroke, thus also obtaining an increased power of 118 HP (IGM standards)[4] which allows the car to have a maximum speed among the highest of its displacement (109 mph, or 175.4 km/h in the AutocarUK 7/1970 test[5]
Already in November 1969 an update of the model was presented, generally known as the "second series". In reality it is of a simple modernization with small functional and aesthetic modifications, such as the pedals hinged at the top, the front indicators, the side repeaters, the wooden steering wheel rim and other improvements to the interior finishes. The mechanics remained unchanged. Not so the price which rose to L. 2,135,000.

The motorcar offering here is a 1750 Berlina 1970 Edition, in according to the Certificate of Origin Alfa Romeo was produced for the Italian market on June 4, 1970 and painted in the characteristic Grigio Medio Metallico which is still present on the car today.
As confirmed by all its original documentation and confirmed by the heirs of the first owner, this Berlina was delivered to its first owner, Count Piovene Porto Godi, on 10 June 1970. As confirmed by his son, the choice fell on the 1750 over the new BMW class due to its prompt availability and renowned assistance provided by the local Rino Berton Alfa Romeo dealers. The car still has the document envelope and the personalised key ring provided by the dealer.
This was the count's last car and was used until 1986 as confirmed by the road tax register, it was subsequently passed into the hands of his son who, together with his nephew, both car enthusiasts, jealously preserved it in the historic family residence, providing it with the care it deserved to keep it in working condition.
Most of the work undertaken between 2013 and 2023 includes a new exhaust system, a service and cleaning of the tank and carburettors along with the ignition system, a complete overhaul of the braking system which was carried out more recently along with the drive shaft and a radiator overhaul, all documented in a service log by hand by the trusted mechanic.
After a courtship that lasted years and with the promise of restoring the Berlina to its former glory in 2024, it was purchased by us and subjected to a cosmetic restoration, scraping the paint and respray in Grigio Medio Metallico.
Now the car is perfectly preserved both mechanically and upholstery while the external part is completely renewed as in 1970, it is accompanied with all its documentation from the origin its set of original tools and its original perfume inside.
