Description

Bella Macchina: the ‘68 style classic

The Alfa Romeo Berlina 1750 was launched on 17 January 1968 at the Brussels Motor Show. Designed by Bertone, the resemblance to the highly successful Giulia was unmistakable. The 60 mm longer wheelbase made the vehicle more spacious.

Alfa offered its renowned twin-camshaft engine with a new 1779 cm³ engine capacity under the abbreviation ‘1750’, in tribute to the famous pre-war six-cylinder 6C 1750. The maximum output of the basic version was 83 kW (113 hp) at 5500 rpm. In addition to its outstanding responsiveness and performance, the engine also offered an unusually high torque, which made it possible to drive without changing gear. The five-speed gearbox, four-disc brakes and powerful sound added to the driving pleasure and safety. Compared to the later Berlina 2000, the Berlina 1750 had larger outboard headlights, which made the front of the model particularly attractive.

In the interior, the elegant narrow wooden trim detailing and four sporty additional instruments in the centre console are just as impressive as the comfortable seats with their infinitely adjustable backrests. The narrow A-pillars ensure excellent visibility to the front, while the steep angle of the rear window ensures perfect visibility to the back and less heating of the interior in summer. The front vent windows and air vents in the footwell ensure a pleasant climate on warm days.

This model was first launched in its home country of Italy. In 1987, the car had just 42,000 kilometres on the clock. In 1995, it was imported to Switzerland by an enthusiast. Three further Swiss owners have lovingly maintained and driven the vehicle regularly, but only in summer. The car has veteran status and the mileage is now around 80,000 km.. The ‘Libretto di servizio’ service book and original brochure complete with various invoices and two full sets of keys are also provided.

A cylinder head refurbishment with new valves was carried out in 2023. The cooling system, including the water pump, and the steering gear have also been renewed. The car is in very good technical and visual condition and is fully roadworthy for everyday use and long journeys.
