French Classic Cars for Sale
The French have been producing cars since the 1890s, and, whether they were aimed at the budget or luxury end of the market, many French classic cars have exhibited a level of innovation and flair that other nations have rarely dared to imitate.

Drivers of French classic cars are not afraid to be a little different. They probably admire stylish and interesting things, and are not heavily influenced by the latest fashions. Owners of French classic cars will take pleasure in the feeling they get from driving their car, as well as the image it helps them portray. They will probably be more preoccupied with comfort and luxury than speed.
French Classic Cars and Movies
There are many examples of movies and TV series featuring French classic cars. A Citroen Traction Avant appears where mid-20th century style is required, such as in 'From Russia With Love'. The Citroen 2CV is often used to indicate quirkiness, and perhaps a lack of funds, as in 'Indecent Proposal'. The Citroen DS is generally employed to indicate a combination of style and eccentricity. It was the obvious choice for Patrick Jane in TV's 'The Mentalist', but it also featured as a flying taxi in 'Back to the Future II'! The Renault 4 is the French classic car representing toughness and character, as in 'Romancing the Stone'.
French Classic Cars- Different Models and Makes
The Citroen Traction Avant (1934-57) was the first of the great French classic cars. This featured front-wheel drive, plus independent front suspension and a welded body and chassis. Possibly the best known is the Citroen 2CV (1948-90). This was a budget classic, with soft suspension, a roll-back roof and styling like nothing else. The Citroen DS (1955-75) had few rivals for innovation. This remarkable car pioneered self-levelling hydropneumatic suspension, disc brakes, and power steering, as well as featuring a stylish curved design at a time when most cars looked nothing like it. Finally, for a tough little car with character, the Renault 4 (1961-1994) would be worth looking at. A boxier answer to the 2CV, this was the first mass production hatchback.
Where to see French Classic Cars
The annual Retromobile show in Paris has a huge range of vehicles from all over the world, including a large number of French classic cars. In the UK, there are car clubs which pay homage to all of the large French manufacturers: their meetings will bring some fascinating examples together.
