Classic Roadsters for Sale
Classic roadsters. What a unique term, for a unique version of automobile! While roadsters presently mean any car with a convertible roof, the term classic roadsters were for those two seat cars that didn't have a roof and weather protection. In fact, going back even further, the term roadster meant a horse suitable for use in travelling!
The Lifestyle of Classic roadsters
Classic roadsters were those cars very early on in the history of automobiles that had none of the conveniences of modern cars. The classic roadsters were raw, travelling machines. Built entirely out of metal, with some wheels, lights, a body and an engine, they were designed to get you places in style, but not comfort.
These cars are still adored now-a-days, with some seeing them as the pure representation of automobiles, while others like the sheer simplicity of them and clarity of mind to design and build them.
Classic roadsters and movies
Classic roadsters are a very classic sight in Hollywood movies. Without even naming a movie, all I have to describe to you is the scene of a man driving, and a lady in the passenger seat with sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat and a scarf flying through the air, with the West Coast flying by behind them. These cars were used so much in the movies because they denoted the feeling of moving forward against and in spite of the elements, while being able to take in the fresh air and get a feeling of exhilaration.
The most memorable Classic roadsters
Likely the most memorable classic roadsters were those that were mass-produced. These would be the Ford Model T, which would become one of the greatest selling cars of all time, and the Austin 7. Apart from that, while many developed at the time looked the same, you could tell the silhouette apart. Those with an interest in classic roadsters however, would feel hard-done-by if we didn't also mention the Bugatti Royale (or Type 41), or the Duesenberg Model J, which were both the cream of premium products at the time, with only very few being made!
Important classic roadster events
Unfortunately, due to the age of classic roadsters (with many being developed in the 20s and 30s), many have no longer survived. However, car events happen all over the world for what they term classic roadsters (which are normally those from the 40's to the 70's). In the UK there is the Perthshire Classic Car Festival and Drive It Day in April, and The Donington Historic Festival and Hutton-In-The-Forest Classic Car and Bike Show in May, while many make-specific events happen throughout the year.
