Auto Storica is pleased to announce this Renault 5 Turbo Cévennes.

In July 1981, the most radical evolution of the Renault 5 came to light. Marcello Gandini maximized the lines of the popular French utility vehicle through an excessive widening of the hips, necessary to house the engine and transmission, which were now located behind the the -only- front seats. Thus the link between street and competition was born. The Renault 5 Turbo was born.

It didn't take long for the new creature from Dieppe to demonstrate its worth in the world of rallying, winning the Monte-Carlo Rally that same year, and becoming champion of the Tour de Corse twice, with a certain Jean Ragnotti, behind the wheel, beating the Audi Quattro, Lancia 037 or Porsche 911 with his spectacular driving skills.

The unit that we offer today is a Renault 5 Turbo Cévennes, the version that Renault Sport prepared for Group 4 rallies, and which receives its name after winning the French test Critérium de Cévennes

Its engine, a 1.4-liter four-cylinder, develops 220hp, thanks to a better air intake due to the original Renault Sport intake manifold (8221), and a turbo setting with original specifications. The power is transmitted to the rear axle, which has specific bearings for the Cévennes version, through a short-stroke gearbox with self-locking mechanism, and an AP Racing ceramic clutch.

Its body is painted with the same colors and decoration as the competition model, and it has the most characteristic elements of the 5 Turbo: aluminum roof, doors and tailgate. In addition, we find Renault Sport body reinforcements.

The wheels, Gotti TB75 - with a spectacular groove in the rear - hide AP Racing 4-piston steel disc brakes. The brake distributor and the double brake master cylinder are from the same company.

In its interior we are welcomed by a Motolita competition steering wheel, and two firm Stand21 period backrests, which follow the original decoration of the 5 Turbo, and which have Sabelt 4-point harnesses. The entire cabin is protected by a 6-point cage and even the co-driver has a complete Terratrip to participate in rallies.
