1964 | Volkswagen Karmann Ghia 1500 S

Pleased to be offering this wonderful 1964 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia.

Imported from California in 2005, it has been dry stored and restored subsequently. The last owner told us he started her regularly and only drove the car in fair weather.

Pan-off restoration in the UK circa 2006 by a previous keeper, the car comes with many pictures of the restoration on a CD. It remained unfinished for a few years, finally having a full repaint in 2015. Today, the period finish paintwork presents fabulously well. All the chrome is nice and shiny too. All panel lines have a tight finish with no gaps, probably better then when it left the factory.

When we brought the car into the showroom it still needed a few things finishing and fitting such as carpets, trimming rear seats etc. All seats have now undergone a retrim and the headlining is all good too. We’ve put a lot of time and effort into making sure this Ghia is a good driver and looks as good as it can.

Most importantly, this wonderful Ghia drives beautifully. It starts on the button every time we jump in the car. Ghias were fitted with an automatic choke from factory so there’s no need to mess around with a manual choke pull out.

The air-cooled engine provides a joyous soundtrack and really takes you back to 60s motoring. Out on the road she gets up to speed quickly and sits comfortably whether you are doing 30mph or 70mph. All the gears are easily found with a smooth operating gear stick and there’s no crunching between gears. The pedals are all as they should be with nice clutch operation and sharp braking.

Karmann Ghias are a popular classic car with a big following from VW enthusiasts and the classic car community as a whole. With their popularity you’ll never have any trouble finding spare parts or customising the car to how you want.
