For Sale: Toyota 800 Sports LHD

We are offering a rare Toyota 800 Sports in left-hand drive configuration. Only about 300 units of this model were produced, making it a true collector's item. This particular example has been fully restored and upgraded with a more powerful 1000 KP30 engine.

The history of this Toyota 800 Sports begins in the late 1970s to early 1980s when it was brought to Ramstein Air Base by US soldiers, likely from Okinawa. In the late 1980s, a German employee discovered the vehicle in a warehouse, where it was in very poor condition and most parts were missing. The Toyota changed hands several times until 2002, but no one dared to take on the complex restoration and procurement of spare parts.

In 2002, a friend of mine, a former workshop foreman at Toyota, took on the project. He restored the body to a very high standard and over the years collected many of the required parts from around the world. Since most of the mechanical components were also missing, he purchased a 1974 Toyota 1000 and utilized its technology. Every single part was meticulously overhauled and restored to a high standard.

About three years ago, I took over the nearly finished 800 Sports. A few parts were still missing, mainly seals and trim pieces. I was able to find these missing parts in Japan and the USA. The vehicle is now fully restored and ready to hit the road.

The Toyota 800 Sports was first introduced in the early 1960s and marked Toyota's initial foray into the sports car segment. With its lightweight design and sporty handling, the model quickly gained popularity among automotive enthusiasts. However, production ended after just a few years due to limited demand and Toyota's decision to focus more on other vehicle segments.

The left-hand drive version of the Toyota 800 Sports is particularly rare as it was primarily manufactured for export markets like North America. The combination of its unique design, fascinating history, and comprehensive restoration makes this vehicle an exceptional opportunity for collectors and lovers of classic automobiles.
