Descrizione

The 300 S Convertible that we offer for sale is a piece of contemporary history that reflects the glorious times of the Daimler company. Painted in maple yellow and equipped with grey leather, it is a real rarity in addition to the small number of units.

It was delivered to a perfume manufacturer in Berlin in August 1952. In the early 1980s the car was sold to an American businessman who later imported it back to Germany to the son of the first owner. The last owner bought the car in 1991 from a German classic car dealer, who took excellent care of and documented the convertible. Among other things, the car won various prizes such as the "golden classic steering wheel" in 2012 (awarded by Motor-Klassik), the Concours d'elegance Landesbergen in 1997 (awarded by the veterans' regulars' table Mühle Landesbergen).

The W188 was completely restored in 1994, except for the interior, which still has the original leather. Originally painted black, the car was repainted in maple yellow (original Mercedes-Benz colour). The mint condition of the body and the technology make the vehicle an absolute collector's item with value retaining.

History of the series

The Mercedes W 188 series was presented to the public at the Paris Motor Show in October 1951. The coupés, cabriolets and roadsters were derived from the saloon of the W 186 series and have a wheelbase that is 15 cm shorter than it. They were the last Daimler-Benz models still built on a chassis.

With a total of 560 examples of the 300 S and 200 of the 300 Sc, the W 188 series is rarer than the 300 SL (W 198). It is no coincidence that the W 188 was the most expensive model series from Mercedes-Benz over the entire construction period, costing 34,500.00 DM. The 300 S was the last Daimler whose style and lines were reminiscent of the great era of classic automobiles.

In 1955, the model series was then revised and renamed the 300 Sc. Both versions, the 300 S and the 300 Sc, are among the most exclusive Mercedes-Benz passenger car models of the post-war period and, along with the 300 SL, are particularly sought-after collectors' cars today.
