Sometimes we receive cars that are so beautiful and original, that it fills us to the brim with joy! This BMW 2002 Turbo takes us back in time. The 'early turbo era' of cars from the 1970s and 1980s always brings a smile to our faces. Not surprisingly, right? For instance, the Saab 900 Turbo is an incredibly fun and great car to drive and the Porsche 911 Turbo not only provided a breathtaking sensation back then but still does today. Wonderful cars! But let's be fair, we're now severely underestimating the list of this era because BMW with the 2002 turbo certainly contributed to that turbo era.
How did the 2002 Turbo come about? BMW took the 1,600 cc engine from the 2002 Tii as a starting point, the engineers then added a KKK turbocharger to increase the power from 130 hp to 170 hp. With this significant difference in power, other adjustments were obviously necessary. BMW installed an oil cooler, gave the 2002 Turbo larger brakes, wider wheels for more grip, and a limited-slip differential. If we delve a little deeper into the history of this famous model, we discover that BMW could have significantly increased the turbo pressure of the 2002 Turbo, but they thought it wiser not to do so. For example, the drivetrain could remain intact, which was quite nice! Even more so now, because BMW only sold 1672 units.
Our specimen is not only great because of the turbo, but also because this 2002 Turbo has been in good hands. Firstly, it's very special that this specimen has remained with one family throughout its entire life! The car has literally been pampered by this family, which is quite evident in almost everything. We're dealing with a restored and mechanically overhauled specimen here, in excellent condition. We haven't seen one like this in a long time!
The exterior is finished in 'Alpinweiss' and looks splendid. Because the car received the right kind of care, it is reflected in the car’s wonderful condition wherever you look. The panel fittings are very good, and the body colour shines without any noticeable signs of use; a beautiful and sleek body. The rubber looks fresh, as does the spoiler and chrome trims. It's also evident from underneath the car that we are presented with a high-quality specimen.
In the interior, we naturally see the familiar red 'outlines' of the clocks. The black leather upholstery is in very good condition, as is the steering wheel, the beautiful gauges, and the carpets. If we can describe it briefly, the entire interior looks very well-kept.
From a mechanical point of view, we are also very pleased with this 2002 Turbo. The original mileage of 41,000 kilometers probably already suggests that this one is in very good condition. It not only looks like that, but it also drives like it! The engine runs smoothly and nicely, the shifting goes as you would expect from a BMW, and the whole thing makes a solid and very good impression. When the turbo does its job, it becomes immediately clear that this is not a regular BMW. This car is powerful and impressive, time and time again. What an experience!
With only 1672 units, this BMW 2002 Turbo is not only rare but also in demand. Our 2002 benefits from a low mileage, few owners, and the ultimate care the car received. We'd love to see more of them come by, because it's been a while since we had such a beautiful 2002 in our collection!
