*Aston Martin MkII 1.5 L Short Chassis (1935): Nothing Beats Originality
*
This 1935 Aston Martin MkII is a rare short chassis version. Just 61 of the coveted short chassis models were built. A true vintage sports car that makes the hearts of enthusiasts beat faster. What sets this example apart is that it has never undergone a full restoration. Instead, it has retained its wonderfully original character, with that irreplaceable patina that only comes from a life well lived. This is a car with a soul. The French put it best: “dans son jus.” It’s in very tidy condition, while still preserving its authenticity. This MkII breathes character and originality, and you can feel it in every detail.
*Cherished by a true enthusiast for decades
*
This particular car comes with an admirable provenance. It was in the care of the same collector for nearly thirty years—someone who clearly treasured it. The result? A car that has always been properly maintained and recently received a comprehensive check-up. The engine was overhauled in 2017 and runs beautifully, making it mechanically sound and ready to be enjoyed.
The MkII comes equipped with a folding soft top, side screens, and a tonneau cover, making it well-prepared for touring or rallies in any weather. It also includes a wealth of documentation, invoices, correspondence, and even the original British logbook—a rare and valuable package for the next caretaker.
*Balanced and spirited behind the wheel
*
For a pre-war car, this Aston Martin is remarkably lively and easy to drive. The engine has a healthy eagerness to it, and the car feels responsive and nimble—qualities you don’t always expect from a vehicle of this age. Its light weight contributes to a beautifully balanced driving experience. It’s pure joy for anyone passionate about pre-war motoring, especially those who want something that feels genuinely engaging to drive.
*A brief history of the Aston Martin MkII
*
Aston Martin’s roots go back to 1915, when Robert Bamford and Lionel Martin registered their first car under the name “Aston Martin”—a nod to their victories at the famous Aston Clinton Hill Climb near Tring. After World War I, the brand focused heavily on motorsport, with road car production taking a backseat. This ultimately led to bankruptcy in 1925. The company was later revived by John Renwick and engineer Augustus “Bert” Bertelli.
In 1927, Bertelli introduced his own design: a robust four-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft and a 1,492 cc displacement. The engine proved successful, laying the groundwork for future models. In 1934, Aston Martin unveiled the MkII—an evolution of the earlier Le Mans cars. The MkII featured a reinforced chassis and was available in either short or long wheelbase form. Just 61 of the coveted short chassis models were built, making this car particularly exclusive today.
*Versatile, original, and endlessly charming
*
With its exceptional driving manners, untouched appearance, and storied past, this Aston Martin is a perfect fit for rallies, touring events, or simply as a showstopper at any classic car gathering.
In short, this 1935 Aston Martin MkII is a rare opportunity for the discerning enthusiast—a classic with soul, substance, and a story worth telling.
